    More Briggs Engines

    I thought I'd post up a couple of my latest projects. The first one is a 1946 Briggs NR6 military engine that was recently given to me by a friend. It was in rough shape, but it was free, and I didn't have an NR6 in my Model N collection yet. The NR6 has a 6:1 gear reduction that is cast directly into the block. Its almost done now, and it turned out quite nice. I'm still waiting on my decals, and new tag to arrive. The paint job isn't that great, but I have to use rattle can paint on my military enges, because if I use a good paint, and spray it with my gun, they always turn out waaay to shiny. High gloss, and military don't mix! The second engine, is a 1952 Sears tagged Briggs NP, with a 3:1 gear reduction designed for use on reel mowers. Its all original, and I won't be restoring this one. I did pull the head, and the base, to clean out the 60 year old carbon, and sludge from the engine. I cleaned the carburetor as well. These are rather strange looking engines with their long gear reduction hanging off the side. It smokes a bit, but being 63 years old, it has the right to.     Hello all, I don't want to get your hopes up and tell you it's for sale just yet, but all being well and good, by the end of the summer/christmas, my little cub cadet original might well be up for sale, We are getting vehicle rear access to the back of the house so finally my dream can come true, I've always wanted a full size tractor, not meaning these news things, but like a little grey fergie or something like that, I have my little fund pot tucked away, but sadly the little machines would have to go as they just wouldn't get used + take up some of my storage space, and of course the extra $$$ will help!... you guys know everything about it already pretty much, been restored by myself, erm, runs and drives great, it is what it is, you've all seen enough pictures of it but i'll add one here anyway I'll also chuck that tipping trailer in with it I might get round to painting it by then as it will give me something to do if not, it will be a little rusty . basically you might be thinking why is he putting this ad up on here so early if he isn't ready to sell it?... well I know peoples minds change, so you might like the idea and want to buy it now but when its ready to go, change your mind. but I put it on here to see if any of you guys wanted it before I put it on the bay because at least then I know its gone to a good loving home, not someone who's going to cut it up and do weird and wonderful things with it as some people seem to do! I was toying with the idea of putting it on the bay with a 99p start but a high reserve so I could see interest, but it seems setting a reserve is relatively high, I read something like 10% of the reserve price.... just to ad it.. then if it sells even more charges... hmmm! Anyway, would anyone be interested later on in the year as long as everything goes to plan? I know I hate it myself when people do this to me.. I always think well I cant be the buyer and the seller at the same time, but I'm going to have to do it to you lot at this moment in time, as I just have no idea what it's worth, so I'm going to say... If any of you will be Interested, send me a P.M with what you would offer for my little cub cadet and I'm sure we could talk about it.....the worst I can say is no On another note, If none of you Red Paint Lovers are interested in buying it, your input would also be very welcome with valuations, tell me what you think its worth just in case it does end up on the bay! I would kindly ask you to P.M me valuations though as I don't want to cause any rivalry or upset between anyone Cheers Charlie.

    Been busy fixing my steering wheel today, here are some pictures. I used some black epoxy putty which worked really well. After a polish you can barely tell it's there All painted and fitted back on ready for next week. I have added a temporary replacement grill to the front since the old one had completely rusted away and I painted a new number plate as the old one had been painted over. Ready to be loaded up tomorrow for Newby hall tractor fest

    When at Newby Hall last year, we were camped about 1/4 mile from where our exhibits where. Having three and only being able to drive one at a time, walking back and forth got to be a bit of a bind. So for this year something had to be done to save the poor old legs. They're not as young as they used to be. It's the rigor mortis setting in early. So this morning I had a scrat about. One Westwood front axle and wheels, some 2" box section, surplus ladder racks and the result you can see below. Still ramps to make yet.

    You need to either inspect the Coil to see if it has the part number printed on it, or check the dimensions. You then compare it to the versions offered on one of the Parts Website links I gave you. I reckon it could be the M1634E size as stated at the bottom of the page on this link- http://www.villiersparts.co.uk/ignition.html As for your Carb, it should be a Villiers Junior Model. Underneath the Knurled Screw-on Cable/Slide Cap of the Carb, you should see V508C/1 'raised cast' on the body. This is a standard type for this size Villiers and a version of it is also used on Seagull Outboards. An example is in this pic- The one on the left is the type you (should) have. The Air Filter is just a screw-on Bell Mouth unit with a Mesh Screen. (This Carb will be stripped/refurbished when I get the time). The other is the Seagull Outboard version from a 40+. Doesn't have a screen as there is not much dust and chaff on water!. Don't be tempted to swap Needle Valves from various Carb types as they are not the same. So your Carb internal parts are all displayed and listed on Page 9 of the Villiers Manual I placed in the Downloads section for you. You can then order by Part Number if required to replace parts.     well we towed the landy back to the workshop with the holder, soon found the problem i had forgot to weld the steering shaft on properly it only had a tack weld anyway all sorted now
