It will only be original once, clean up the rusty bits and give a rub over with wax or oil.

Thanks all.
Listen, guys. This is your British product and it's supposed to look like your factory made it. It's supposed to be original :)

Hi, that's a later Gazelle model. Possibly a Mk4 Gazelle (first model after the white grille). Looks good, look forward to seeing more posts.

WestwoodW8Gazelle reacted to beardyrich in Gemini restoration
Following a recent offer of a free Westwood Gemini, I've stripped it down to it's bare bones and managed to get it back to a reasonable condition.
I needed to purchase some new parts like ignition coil, HT lead and new NGK spark plug. Starter recoil assembly with rope and handle and new engine gaskets of course (in particular the correct thickness head gasket). The cylinder head was de-coked, cylinder bore de-glazed, inlet and exh valves lapped in and valve clearances adjusted to spec. Ignition timing reset by finding true TDC with a dial gauge and degree disc on the crankshaft. Zenith carb cleaned inside and out with carb cleaner and jets cleaned with compressed air. Similar for the fuel tank with a new fuel pipe fitted. The 'gloop' in the chaincase was removed as far as possible and refilled with new oil. Unfortunately, the chaincase is sealed for life though I would have liked to get inside and give it a proper clean and renew the axle shaft seals. Everything torque tightened where I could find the figures and finally primed and painted in rattle can engine enamel. Stickers from Titch at Machinery Decals, which are great. It started 2nd pull and the carb adjusted once warmed-up. Looking forward to using it when I get my allotment. Photos below...
Here's the completed machine...

so in a twist of fate, I ended up selling this machine on. Main reason was I didn't have the knowledge to fix the cutting deck to a safe standard, and didn't want to throw money at it for someone else to repair it when so many other machines come up for minimal cash.
One of the blades was home made, welded straight to the spindle. I wasn't comfortable getting a proper blade welded straight on, and couldn't find a replacement spindle/mount.
I found myself a T1100 with 36" deck instead, which is near identical to the W11, but had larger tyres, a 36" deck which is easy to source parts for, and was in generally slightly better condition. It cost me a fair chunk more than the gazelle, but I feel it will save me in the long run. My dad has a T1100 too with 36" deck, so means we can trade parts.
Guess thats the end of this thread, will start a new one for the T1100 once i have made a load of progress and can post it one go

WestwoodW8Gazelle reacted to Toma in Westwood w8 exhaust removal
The whole consists of two parts. The first part is secured to the engine by a small screw, and the second part is screwed to the tractor by the muffler. Both are inserted one into the other and fastened with a clamp.
This can be easily removed.

I have a W8 from 1983 (undergoing renovation). There is a 28" deck there and it was like that from the beginning.

fab stuff,
so can we say mk1 had flat footrests and central gear select before moving to column change and sloping footrests?
I note the main dash decal stayed the same for quite a while, but the ignition, lights and warning decals changed a few times?

So its back at mine and its worse than i thought. It sounds really good but 3 axle mounts have snapped, the 2 front ones and one back one that can be welded. The electric start doesnt work and its really rusty all over. Its still getting a full restoration starting in a few months so ill keep you all updated

WestwoodW8Gazelle reacted to Josh4722 in Another Westwood W8 saved from the scrapyard
I was on facebook earlier and i saw a w8 paleface with the light cover instead of the headlights, It has the rear exit exhaust and ive never seen a westwood like this before. I restored and sold my other 2 palefaces about a year ago and practically gave up on my youtube channel (ProjectRestore) haha. This mower was breaking for spares but it seemed quite rare with some of the parts it had on it so i thought itd be worth an ask if i could buy it whole. The guy offered it me for £50 so i took it straight away! Its going to be undergoing a full nut and bolt rebuild on my channel because its very rusty which i will be doing in my shed because i find it easier to work there and it means i can be in there 12 hours a day working. The first video will go up in a few months because i want to finish my shed before i get working on it so i will attach some photos now but videos wont be going up for a while yet. (Please bare with me on videos though because im 15 yrs old so it takes a lot of saving up to afford to get parts for it lol)
Forgot to add, it came with a good condition brochure, a good condition owners manual and a mint condition engine part guide, all original!

WestwoodW8Gazelle got a reaction from Stormin in Westwood Gazelle
Hi, here's a sales brochure for the Mk2 Gazelle although if you look closely, the wider pictures are of Mk1 Westwood's as they have the flat footrests.
Would like to see some pictures of your W11

looking good - currently got two Westwoods - T1600 and W11. Trying to pull more of the history of the early models together on them if anyone know more. Looks like early models are 1980'ish with gear change in the usual place and steel grills?
Anyone got any old brochures on the early models?
