I will bring the Bolens 1886
Can you put me on the list please. I seem to have lost the form!!
-
I have an SCH towed sweeper. The muts nuts of sweepers
No I wont sell it
-
You sure its not a SACHS if it has a starter or something which has been lashed up??
Interested if its a Drayton
Or a mate if its a Sachs
-
You been tresspassing Nigel
Wonder what engine that has in it??
Be interesting to contact DVLA with info on the no plate
-
It will be even bigger when I get the mower deck on
I did once own a D200 which I should have kept
Another pic to show its size. Yes I should have me more happier Just like Nigel!!
-
Just tell me Chris
How do you do it you lucky git
A tidy machine
-
Thought I would have a problem! It kept hunting today & did not want to respond well to ajustments
So I took the jets etc out of the old carb body as they had done less work, cleaned them up & fitted them. Got more responce now.
We will see how it runs when its under load with the deck, which is the next to sort
-
Good news!
Bolted the exhaust etc back on today & filled the rear end up with fresh ATF & new filter
Got fuel up to the pump & with a few cranks, away she went. With a few carb ajustments it seems to run OK
Will refit the fender & seat etc tomorrow & take it for a test drive. Cant wait
-
Its a K482 Kohler Flat Twin. 18HP
Got to be powerful, its got a 54in mower deck to power
Tell me, why dont you see many of these older flat twins any more?? Few of the newer magnums
Would not mind picking up a few more for spares
-
Well finished the wiring tonight & it now cranks over on the key
Also got sparks at the plugs you can weld with
Made up the new exhaust at work also
If all goes to plan, then I hope to have it running at the weekend. Cant wait
-
Got the very heavy engine back in today. My poor back!!!
With the parts I have robbed off my spare engines, I hope this should be a good unit. At least with a good cowl on the front, it will now keep cool as thold one had rotted out with the mouse nest!
-
Here you go. Does this help??
Been working on my tractor today & had a look at its ID serial decal
Its in VGC for its age!!
-
Not sure yet Paul
This show clashes with Wiston Steam just down the road from me. Which is a great shame as after going last year, I said I will take something or help a mate with his tractors
Will find out
-
Engine slowly going back together now.
With the rings freed & light hone its all ok so far.
Had to replace an exhaust valve as one was bent. With a good grind in & set up they are working ok also
Christ its got some compression now!!
The chassis had been steam cleaned & the linkages freed off & oiled up
More to follow later
-
Dam!! I would have liked to have gone
Whens the next one???
-
I had one of those years ago. For life of me I cant remember what I done with it!
I also had big brother with 5hp B&S
Both good powerful mowers
-
This is my modern verison of Nigels tractor
-
Thanks for the info.
I took the tank to work today & steamed out the inside using the high powered jet washer we have.
I got it so hot you could have fried an egg on it
I did this several times & washed it out with cold water & it does not look to bad now
I have ordered some Frosts tank clean to give it a extra soak so we will see how that performs
-
Your right about that Chris!
You seem to get all the easy get going tractors
-
Just to say that the engine can be saved with some love.
The exaust vavles were stuck hence the engine would not turn over & the bores were full of rusty dirt.
I have removed the pistons & found dirt between the rings & a stuck ring. That would not have run for long if I left it!!
With a light hone, the bores will be ok.
Got the old spark plugs out of the heads using the gas! never had to warm plugs to get them out before
Just going through cleaning & checking items now
-
-
Spent an hour on it again tonight & got the engine out. Boy thats a heavy lump!!!
The grub screws on the drive shaft came out but that was that, so out with the gas!! Warm up the UJ on the engine end & with a few belts with the hammer it came off. 1st time since 1974 when some guy in the US put it on
The engine turns so far then stops So hoping its just a stuck vavle etc. We will see
-
How do I go about setting up an E tank??
I have heard about them but never looked into it more
Its quite a large tank for the tractor so whats my best set up to clean it out??
-
Right, started to pull the 1886 apart today.
My plan is to just free it all up & get everything working. Then just oil up the paint work. Its going to be a working tractor, not a show piece
The engine is going to come out for an overhaul, it turns but the front cowl is rotted through & had a large mouse nest inside!
Lucky I have 2 other dead engines which I can rob some bits off
Amazingly most of the nuts & bolts came undone to get some of the larger parts of the tractor apart
-
Right,
Started pulling my Bolens 1886 apart today for get it going restoration
One of the problems is rust & dirt in the large fuel tank
Also some 30 year old petrol
Whats the best way to clean it out apart from filling it with stones & parrafin & strap it to a cement mixer for a day
Is there some kind of eco cemical I can fill it with which will eat the rust???
Thanks all
