Whats the worst car you ever owned

Recommended Posts

The worst car i ever owned was my very first car  which was the Hillman Imp.

I Just passed my test & i needed to have a car . My dad was restoring an old Hillman imp which a guy  from work gave him .sSo when it was done, he gave it to me.

This car was sooooooo not cool for a young 17 year old to be driving & all my mates used to  smirk at me when i drove this thing around . I dont think it done much for my street cred with the chicks either .

I remember this thing would always over heat and i used to carry 2 gallon of water around wherever i went but the worst thing was that when it needed to be filled with water you had to take your life in your own hands as the water filler hose pointed directly at you, so when this thing overheated it would squirt scolding hot water in to your facial direction . & many a time i  nearly ended up getting boiling water & scolding steam  sprayed into my face .

The other pitfalls with this car was the you had to carry 2 bags of cement in the front of the car so as to weigh down the front end of the vehicle because of the weight of the engine in the back would make the front part of the car lift up & make it very unsteady at the front .

I also rember that because i had to keep filling the radiator with fresh water every day , the cooling system never ever got any antifreeze in it  & so during the freezing winters back then i would end up driving around in a frozen car because the water inside the radiator had frozen & so i had no heater inside & the only way the windscreen would defrost was by breathing on it & driving the car with my head leaning out of the window so that i could see because the windscreen had also frozen over  . so sadly any girls that i did mange to take out never bothered seeing me again .

I only kept this car for around 1 year because as a young 17 year old i got fed up of not having any girlfriends to take out cruising . :hide:  :banghead:

Mine was a 2001 Chevrolet Venture Minivan.  It was my first Chevy (and my last) and I hated it from day 1.  One day we went to church, it was raining and we went in side.  The van had a power door and when we came back out the inside was completely drenched because the door opened by itself.  Chevy's response: can't reproduce it.  When stopped on a hill, just removing your foot from the brake the van would roll backwards as though it was in neutral. Chevy's response: Some models do that, nothing we can do.

Parts would fall off, the thing was just a complete nightmare. We bought it brand new, and 4 months later dumped it and got a Ford Windstar which had no problems.

This took some thinking about..

I think it was a Renault 11 auto with a shot trans and a very leaky full length canvas sunroof...

I swapped the engine and trans for one out of a Renault 9 with 5 speed manual box..

The leaky sunroof was ripped off and a large bit of Ford Escort roof was welded on!!

A terrible car really, I don't know why I did so much work on it!!

The worst car I've ever owned is my 2008 ford focus. Build quality is awful, parts are very expensive as apparently to have a 1.8 in it is rare compared to the 1.6, fuel consumption is awfull early 30's for a diesel. The dashboard clocks have a mind of there own, rust allready starting,th bonnet is a nightmare to open (two person job),the windows don't work for the first 2minutes of driving and to top it all the flywheel has gone. This is my first and very last ford ever! Give me my Astra van any day.

To be fair to the old blue oval I have had three Focus, a 1.6 hatch which was a bit of a dog, a 2 litre hatch which was superb, only bettered by the 2 litre estate I had for 8 years before trading it in last year for the Duster..

My dad was in the Ford world in the motor trade for many years so I think some of his influence rubbed off, until now I have only ever owned Ford or Vauxhall cars and they never let me down, luck of the draw I suppose...

I had 2 Mini's, an original Cooper with sliding front windows and string to open the doors. A 1275 GT Clubman front, which had a full ground up resto, before being sold to buy the 1st of my Fords. A 'W' reg 1.3L Escort 3 door estate, good engine and gearbox but a rust bucket. Then had a 'C' reg 2.0 Ghia Sierra Hatch in Paris Blue Metallic, absolutely loved that car....... a bit of power and rear wheel drive! best fun ever with my pants on......... Then the biggest mistake ever, a 'J' reg Ford Orion, low milage, one owner, full history. At 51,000 the rings failed, pressurizing the sump and chucking oil everywhere........ We stripped the engine to find the bores glazed, rings stuck. Once repaired the clutch went, then the radiator, a caliper seized, exhaust fell off...... and then the rust started so I got rid. Decided to go Japanese after that and had a1.6SRI Nissan Primera, one of the rarer saloon models. A G20 to those of you over the water. Probably the my favorite car. When the family grew I bought a 2002 Primera estate 2.0 SE+. Still own that and its probably going to be with us a bit longer, 138,500 miles now, chain driven, legendary SR20DE reliability.

Got to admit though my favourite "car" of all time is my subaru pickup, even though its a rust bucket nothing quite puts a grin on your face like this does, particuarly when it snows.

Does look a lot trumphlike

Rear wheel arch says Triumph.

Yep 1965 MK1 triumph 2000....

And this was my pride and joy, a 1973 MK 2 triumph 2500 Pi.

I drove and had this on the road for 12 years. Again not a good photo its a scan...

Never owned 1 but the worst car I've ever dealt with we're Renaults. I worked at a Chrysler dealer when they got involved with AMC/Renault. What complete toilets. The only way to repair one was to junk it
