What lathe have you got?

Recommended Posts

Just sold my ZYTO. I want something a little bigger.

That's a pity, nice project that one. Suppose you've been seduced by S1g's opening Post pic. Have you decided what you want yet?

Depends what turns up, Richard. And funds. Nothing to big though. Bought the Zyto on impulse, as you do, then some bigger ones showed up. Be more patient this time. ;)  Nothing like the size of S1g's though. Not the room.

Hiding behind the Ladybird mower and amonst the usual workshop detritus is my lathe... and to be honest, I've no idea who made it or when!  It's obviously been repainted and renovated by the previous owner, whom I think made the motor frame, on-off switch and fitted the guards over the slow speed gears. It's a bit worn in places as expected, but gets used alot and is much appreciated (even if it is a bit grubby at the moment).

The only mark on the main casting is the 'D.R.G.M.' number, which I think is a german trademark or something? The motor has '2 69' stamped on, which I presume is 1969...? It was mentioned by someone that it could be WW2 era, and brought back from germany after the war, though I have no idea if thats true or not.

So if anyone can shed more light on it's history I'd love to know!

I'm a bit late to the party on this one. I have a Colchester Master lathe and a Cincinnati mill. The fun bit was having them craned over the workshop roof.

This is arriving tomorrow. Atlas 10. 2 and 3 jaw chucks, face plate and a milling attachment. There's also some more bits and pieces. Not sure what till it arrives.

That's a Good'un Norm, nice find. No stopping you now.

It helps to know someone who you trust who owns one of the best companies specialising in machinery transport and moving. His guys made it look so easy.

It will need to be moved if I build a new workshop
