    Ransomes MG2 Flywheels

I am happy to say I will be getting a delivery of replacement steel flywheels for Ransomes MG2 tractors. I took the decision to commission a number of these to be manufactured to help with the common breakage issue. I will not get another batch machined so first come first served. £205.00 plus carriage. I agree that something doesn't look right, but if this is a Magnetron then where is the other black wire going. Normally you just have one wire going to either throttle or brake so that it earth's & kills the spark when you shut the engine down. Additional wires usually mean you still have points, so does the other wire go under the flywheel. I have a Briggs engine with points & can take a photo of that set up if needed

Your strange connection is an Earth / ground that should have a loop terminal to be clamped under a suitable screw. Your first image is of the coil armature and unless my eyes deceive me it is on back to front - may be not?

    My Wife's O&R Collection

Unfortunately my information is missing engine Type 329 but the short-block replacement list does include it (doesn't give use). I think it was a chainsaw engine, I can see some of the starter housing screws have nuts on the back, this is because most of the screws would have gone through the back-plate and straight into the chainsaw tank. The starter is the wrong type for a 13B, but fitting the 13A or Compact I, II or III type would also require a change of flywheel as the starter dogs are different. It's strange that it uses a very late coil, but the air filter is only a single stage type, possibly been added as some chainsaws use a completely different type. Of course none of this really matters if it was a new spare chainsaw engine that was setup for a shop display. For comparison this is an engine that was on a Mustang Model 13 chainsaw. And here is the same engine on this chainsaw. David

Did l pay a fair amount ( 400.00 ) for this machine. Runs great (no smoke), new belts, new blades, minimal surface rust, new battery and tires in decent shape.
