Potash123 got a reaction from HeadExam in Stahwille 10805 Hammer
Whilst pulling down an old outbuilding at work I found an old hammer in a chest of drawers. Slight surface rust but could clearly read 'Stahwille 10805 Germany'. It has a wooden shaft marked 'Hickory'. Did some research and these are currently still on sale known as a pecking hammer.
I sanded it all down and gave the head a coat of Japlac. I polished the head surface and single claw. Hey presto a new hammer that gave me an hours enjoyment in the cave. These are retailing at $104.60 on line. Thought I would share this little story before you discard an old hammer. I will hang mine with the others I don't use that often.

Thank you, the pump seems to be under the seat/fuel tank, getting to it is another matter, can't even see it to read the make. Will have another go the weekend.

I recent visited the ALDI supermarket  to buy some bits. I noticed that they were selling aerosols 400 ml in various colours at about £2.50 each. I bought a couple and left them in the garage for a rainy day. This week I used it for a project, it is extremely similar to dark green Hayter and much cheaper. Called Deco Style Metal Spray Paint made in Germany ( High Gloss ), made for ALDI. As the Forum is so quiet I thought I would share this.

Will sort out measurements tomorrow. Just found a good video on Youtube. Just enter the following into their search engine. " Billy Goat Outdoor Vac KV Pro Series walk behind" You can freeze the footage or enlarge it. May help you a lot, however there are several different size bags on the market. The one on youtube is the same size as mine and can measure the bag if you still need. You will need a massive zip. If you can't access youtube, get one of the grandchildren to show you. Lot of good maintenance tips for any machine on there. Especially Hayter.

As you may have gathered from my posts, I restore mowers etc for a hobby. I have bought for £50 and turned an Osprey into £300 in a few weeks. The money helps but I get satisfaction doing these in my retirement. Bit shocked to find two modern non running Hayters just sold on ebay for £4.20 pence. There are two rough cuts ( 21's ) on there at the moment for £39 each. Obviously the time of year is causing the slump. Wish I had some storage room as these mowers are normally snapped up during the rest of the year. I get offered tractors and machines from local farmers, but again not enough room. No questions here, just thought I would add to a quiet forum this time of year. Merry Christmas. Colin.

Thanks lads. Well I got the Hayterette up on my bench today. I undid the bolt holding the blade disc and it freed up well ( Lucky me ). Engine out of the ally body and stored. Took the engine out of the Sovereign, removed the drive pully and it slotted in a treat. Could not believe how well it went. As the new engine is so good I am going to bare metal respray the body and respray the motor. the wheels will go in the dishwasher when the wife is out ( they are plastic rims ). Just need to sort out the modern lever to shut the engine down on the handlebars via the cable. Any advice would help on that one.  Sorry can't do photos. Hope to give this a new lease of life.
Then I am going to restore a Hayter 21 just for fun. Regards Potash.

Potash123 got a reaction from Triumph66 in Hayter rough cutters
Hi and welcome. Last year I did a bare metal restoration on an Osprey which went to good use somewhere in Devon. I have a solid Hayter 21 and an old Hayterette, the latter would like a new engine, I will keep an eye out for one. They are sitting in my greenhouse
waiting for harvest to finish. I thought retirement was supposed to give me time on my hands. Keep up the good work. I would buy all the old rough cutters if I had time. Regards.

Well found the problem which I thought I would share it with everyone. Pampas leafs had wrapped itself round the drive shaft above the blade. It was so tight it acted like a brake causing engine issues. Took ten minutes to unwrap the leaves. Now running fine.

loosen the flywheel nut to the end of the crankshaft, hold the flywheel and with a little hammer(or a chunk of aluminium like i use) rap the end of the crankshaft, two or three raps should pop the flywheel right off

Potash123 got a reaction from Triumph66 in More old Hayterette. Carb.
Hi lads. I have fitted the new diaphragm as per the above, no issues fitting it. I am still not getting any fuel through to the combustion chamber at all, the plug is dry as a bone. I know the engine runs
as I poured petrol down the carb. This only worked once only, but it did run fine for a minute. Obviously a blockage somewhere ? Help please.

I pulled the carb off, put in the ultra-sonic for ten mins. New diaphragm and gaskets, job done its running again. A new carb was £50 plus vat ? So I am happy.

Potash123 got a reaction from Triumph66 in Where to sell.
Today I finished restoring my Osprey 7 BHP. It looks very nice and starts first or second pull. I know I can put it on the obvious ebay, however I want it to got to good home. Can anyone please suggest a good site. I am in Essex. This has got to go as I cannot afford a meadow and have a solid Hayter 21 in my garden centre ready for a restoration. I cannot post pictures on here as I am too old and daft. I do know how to email pictures.

    Have a nice weekend. Colin

Looking at the plans and part numbers that would be so easy to make and mild steel box section is quite cheap. A computer office seat would do the job. I appreciate the replies. Colin.
Three more of these beasts have just been listed in the last 24 hours, one is a beauty at £375.

Potash123 got a reaction from Triumph66 in Hayter 21 Rough Cut
Hi, Just collected a rust free Hayter 21 that had been standing  some time and is all complete, even the blades are very sharp and the body skirts work . It is the red 5 BHP and a 206 Magnetron  engine and a light green deck. The carb is attached directly to the fuel tank like its old baby brothers. After a bit of fettling I fired up the old girl. No issues there but I want to pull the carb to bits and give it a service, therefore I am looking for a carb service kit ? Can anyone supply a good UK contact for this beast. Definitely running out of room in my garage, but I can still get to the beer fridge.
