Howard Bolens Cylinder Mower Attachment

Recommended Posts

Just delivered this afternoon my latest attachment for one of my Bolens. It's a rear mounted attachment originally made by Horwool MFG Ltd in Essex for Bolens. It also came with a prop shaft as well. I am going to give it a good pressure wash this weekend and grease it up. It came from North Wales.

Fantastic addition to your growing collection. I would love one and I am very jealous.

I believe they originally came with a large fibreglass grass collector.

Until you mentioned the manufacturer I was under the impression they were made by the Bolens importer, Howard. The great thing about this forum is that you learn something new every day.

I am amassed by the speed you are adding to your collection.

Iain, I have been diagnosed with a unusual but harmless bug known as the Bolens Bug. The only known cure to allow ate any distress is to procure tractors and attachments pertaining to the Bolens Clan.

Andrew,

If you ever find the cure I am sure my wife would like to know. I think I have passed on the illness to my 7 year old lad. He spent most of Sunday afternoon driving some of mine around.

My wife also want to know the cure too!

On a serious note, I must rein in my expenditure for the time being until next year unless something stunning pops up. Also I now need to sort out the storage so I can move around unhindered.

Another nice find mate ;) And i see by the position you have been offering it up to attach to your Morris :D

The ultimate work tool a Morris, you can drive to a job in it,

cut the grass with a rear mounted cylinder mower.

and use the snow plow to get there in winter :P

Not sure how you'll mount the sickle bar though

I have a mate who has a front mounted flail for a bolens

Yet to see it but he says its huge! :o  :D

Chris, I have just watched Ian's Wheel Horse video with afront mounted flail mower. They do look rather awesome. Sometime, I regret to say, size does matters.....

Be interested in seeing this sometime.

This afternoon due to inclement weather, I jet washed the cylinder mower to remove the accumulated grime, shot some grease where needed and sprayed some lubricants over the cutters. I wiped the whole deck over with an oily rag to add some protection. The prop shaft/PTO shaft was also greased as well. Everything seem to be moving freely. I will apply some linseed oil to the wooden roller later on once it's dry. I have yet to mount it to the Bolens 1254.

I have caused quite a stir on the U.S. forums, namely GTtalk, with the Howard Bolens Cylinder Mower attachment. It seem that they have not come across this type of rear PTO driven cylinder (reel) before. I have been asked to take some detailed measurements and take better photos of it for the archives!

Pure porn for them then!!

Maybe its an approved attachment which was not available in the US??

Howard were importers for the UK, thats why my 1886 has a Howard Bolens sticker slapped over the original transfer

It sounds like a keeper to me otherwise I would have already made an offer. I am sure it would look better on the back of one of my Bolens :)

Iain,

i am on the lookout for a larger Bolens tractor to ensure that the mower look better than your!

Cheers

Greetings from across the pond Gents.

I'm a big Bolens Buff, and found this forum whilst searching for "Howard Bolens".

Good to see a number of fellow Bolens lovers here.

I saw that cylinder mower on the GTTalk forums, and was one of those that were drooling over it :D :D :D
