  1. Brandan It appears that your engine is a general purpose TAS motor with no gear reduction/transmission.. I see that on of the stickers on the cover says P-7 and the other says P-72. It also looks as if this engine rotates in the opposite direction of (2) TAS P-7's I have. I do not know if this motor could be used for a minibike. I state that because I use TAS P-7's for minibikes. Maybe you have seen pictures of my P-7 up in this string of posts. Are you interested in selling this motor and parts ?

  2. HELP PLEASE - I need a Little Petro P-7 KEIHIN carburetor - OR a carburetor float. I have tried many other floats that do not fit in the KEIHIN float bowl. I have been looking for over 1 year now and I really need some help with this --- Help. I can also be reached at hkillackey@aol.com

  3. Yes, That is the next step if I can't get another spring. I will apply a clamping vice-grip about 1" from the end of the spring. This will act as a thermal shunt heat dissipator. I will then heat the spring end to red/white hot if possible. This heat treatment will remove the hardness spring of the steel. It will be easy to form the soft steel. After forming the soft steel end heat will be applied to a blue color. This should restore the hardness of the steel to a spring. I know that one or both heat treatments will require a quench in oil or water.

  4. The curved end of the spring coil is gone. I believe it broke off at some point in it's life. I don't know if my Tanaka is a match to the O&R. I do believe the pull stater design is similar but I don't know if the Japanese Tanaka did a 100% design copy.

  5. Hello - I need a pull starter mechanism for my Tanaka P-7. I don't need the engine cover that holds the pull starter mechanism but I would be willing to buy the cover with the pull starter mechanism attached. My internal spring's tab that retains the spring has broken off.

  6. On my old TAS P-7 I had to re-tap the threads to a modern/today standard metric thread pitch. The JIS metric thread pitch of 60+ years ago are similar but not the same as today. Get the M diameter size and a new tap and chase/reform the old threaded holes if you are going to us new M fasteners

  7. I have started a Facebook group specific for Little Petro's.  You can join the Little Petro Group and we can learn, trade, find info about obtaining parts, share photo's & etc. Do you have a better Coil Cover than this one that you would like to sell? Mine shown needs a repair around the wire hole.

I have a basket case Petro frame, fork, wheels, and motor mount. I do not have the transmission but I do have a nice clean(possibly NOS) P-5 TAS engine for it.

Very Interesting ...... I might have Little Petro transmission ..... I'm not sure of the condition ..... the motor was torn apart and the motor orange painted cover was damaged. Also - I have just started a Little Petro Group on Facebook as another source for getting in touch with other Little Petro owners and fans. On Facebook search Little Petro Group

  9. I didn't / couldn't find any Little Petro plastic parts (Seat, Chain Guard) ---- So I have made a few for me and Im selling a Seat & Chain Guard on eBay now. in 2020 I will be making the Little Petro plastic coil covers...... since I can't find / buy them.

  10. Craig H, Hello. If you can sell OR loan me your chain guard I will have a solid model made and a few produced. Please respond to me - Hkillackey@AOL.com

Also - Is the chain guard like this one ?2004437345_ScreenShot2019-03-29at8_37_38AM.png.d2cc772a009cfa7028b6204fd89f5a0c.png

Wow, that’s one gorgeous saw!  Great photo David!

Just a FYI. The chainsaw has a Tanaka P-7 engine. The guy on eBay that sells the engine decals made them say "P-74c" so nobody would copy/steal a picture to make their own. The problem is that when you buy on from him on eBay you get "P-74c" and not the correct "P-7" as produced by TAS. I know because I have purchased 2 sets -

Excellent, thank you very much. I think I need the 10mm version for my P-5. I’ll look for a CMR7A.  Much appreciated!

    Clint

Your welcome Clint. If you come across any Little Petro plastic parts such as: Seat or Chain Guard please contact me here or at hkillackey@aol.com      Any part I can buy might be a better starting point for my mold making than my current plan

The one in post #8 looks to be a NGK C40 too, I can't find much about it either apart from it's not in the NGK catalogue anymore. I imagine it's a 10mm thread similar to the Champion UY6 used on the early O&R's, or it could even be smaller i.e. 8mm, can you confirm the thread size?

    David

For my P-7 engine in the photos that has the small diameter Spark Plug (10mm major thread diameter) I use NGK CMR7A. For my other P-7 engine that has the large diameter Spark Plug (about 14mm) I purchased Champion CJ14. Since my usage will only be a few times a year for maybe 5 minutes it really won't matter ... It's not like the engine(s) will be raced or held at 90%+ RPM's for any long durations.

    H Killackey,

What did you do to get your TAS P-5 so clean and shiny? Did you polish it or have it soda blasted?  It looks incredible!

    Clint

It was media blasted. Im not sure with what exactly - and It's a TAS P-7

Here's my resto-mod today. You can scroll up above to my April 2018 post and see the before picture. The chain guard mold will be made this summer 2019 - then copies. I will later in the year make the seat mold and copies

  15. My Little Petro motor TANAKA TAS P7 has been restored rebuilt. Does anyone know if the Clutch is a WET Clutch OR a DRT Clutch? That clutch is inside a compartment that has gears. The cover that contains the clutch and gears has to large screws for oil fill and drain at the bottom ...

So if that compartment is filled will oil ..... Its a Wet clutch .... It will grab ?

    DSC03062.JPG

Engine above restored .... WET or DRY clutch ? ..... I have not put oil in the GEAR & CLUTCH compartment  ........ yet ?This is the same engine as 2 or 3 photos above
