  1. As explained in the vid, I just used 3x 1/4UNC socket head cap screws. I would have prefered something stronger, but that was the best option. I plan on making a angle iron base to help strengthen it as well. Andrew
  2. Evening all, Sorry, its a wanted I'm after an ignition coil for an aluminum block Qualcast/Suffolk engine. Should look something like this... I need it to get my twin Suffolk firing on all cylinders again! Cheers Andrew
  3. Yours looks real smart Tom, looks a purposeful machine with that Briggs on. I got mine when I was about your age and funny enough, painted it with Crown Flame red as well. Unfortunatly it doesn't seem to set very hard and has got badly scratched in some places, though mine isn't really a show machine. Also, the paint isn't at all petrol resistant, just some advice for when you restore your engine! Andrew
  4. Cheers Tom, I'll fit a mounting plate if I have to, but I'm not too keen on the idea, as I'd probably end up being silly and fitting a stupid engine (Hmm, I have a Jap 6 here doing nothing!) That said, I have gone tonight, from not knowing if the sump I need exists, to finding one, but unfortunatly the shop selling it lists it as out of stock. I have emailed, but I don't hold out much hope. http://www.lsengineers.co.uk/villiers-mk10-mk12-sump.html
  5. The engine in this listing shows the type of sump I'm after! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Villiers-Stationary-Engine-Mark-12-/291092201026?pt=UK_BOI_FarmingEquipment_RL&hash=item43c6727e42
  6. Sorry, I'm not explaining myself very well Kim, I realise there were several different bolt hole arangements for the sumps, but there were 2 ways in which the sump attached to the engine. You can see on this one that the bit of the block where the sump bolts on is fairly short and the oil filler is in the sump. But on this one, the oil filler is cast into the block, which sticks out much futher. What I'm after is a sump that will bolt onto the Barford chassis, that will fit this later type engine. Andrew
  7. This all started at the end of 2012 when someone I know posted a Youtube video of a "twin cylinder" Suffolk Iron Foundery engine that he'd made. However the next day, he revealed it to be a fake. Soon after a friend of mine gave me 6 Suffolks that he was otherwise going to scrap and a plan started forming For the US members on the forum, The Suffolk engine is a small cast iron block lawn mower engine, used on Suffolk reel mowers from the 50's through to the early 90's (?). It is almost identical to the Briggs and Stratton Model N, to the point that most of the parts are interchangable. Here is what one looks like before I got my hands on it! (Not mine, I must add) So, a (Not very good...) video showing how mine was made. I'm not very good at taking pictures, so that is all I have at the moment. I plan to do a tear down this year and paint it all, I'll take more pics then And one of it running!!! Unfortunatly I don't have a recent video. It now has a single carb, as getting the twin carbs set right was a pain, though I may try twin carb in the future, as I think a lot of the problems were caused by the ignition coil for the 2nd cylinder being on its last legs. it was getting worse and worse every time I ran it and the last time, I would only get th occasional fire on no2 pot. It is currently laid up under the bench, waiting a new coil. The exhausts have also been done with copper and brass fittings, though I plan on making a silencer for it in similar fashion, as it is quite loud. The next part of the plan is to find an engineless 17" Suffolk Super Punch mower and mount it on that! Andrew
  8. Evening all, I'd like to get my Barford Atom back into working order this year. The original (?) engine, a Mk12 Villiers, is very worn, to the point that it has been bored +.060 and is now past the limits on that as well. On Saturday, I was given an almost new Villiers C12 which is in fantastic condition, that I would like to fit, however... The Barford uses a special sump and unfortunatly the way the engine bolts to the sump is different for the Mk12 and the C12, so I can't fit the sump off my current engine onto the C12. Does anyone know if the later Barfords used the later sump? Cheers Andrew
