sten 84 #5 Posted November 21, 2016 Hi, no I have not seen a tap like that before but a seal kit for the normal tap may fit, you have tried stripping it down and cleaning it out have you ?
godfreystu 1 #6 Posted November 23, 2016 Hi, Sten i have had a word with the man i bought the machine off and he said it was bought in 1972 new so it is 44yrs old.He also said that he had trouble with the tap a few years ago so he took it apart and found that the rubber washer was split so he discarded it and put a fiber washer in its place as a spacer as you can see in the photos. The reason i wanted to sort it out was that it was always flooding, but he told me that it did that regularily and it was the needle valve sticking and if you just gave the carb a tap it would free it.So i am going to clean the needle and put back as is.I have tried several dealers and they all say it is obsolete. S1g 579 #8 Posted November 24, 2016 with Honda carbs, two little tricks that I picked up over the years to stop the carb flooding is to take the float needle out, give it a spray in carb cleaner and then wipe the seat of the needle back and fourth a few times with some coarse rag, similar to terry nappies material. Also try refitting the carb bowl and tightening it up with the fuel turned on and running out. Don't know why but particularly the last thing seems to work well? 1 godfreystu reacted to this
