Joe the small engine man 89 #1 Posted November 6, 2015 here is my new to me Bolens mulching mower. I got it as a part exchange for the mountfield sp555 mower. I've used it around my yard for cutting grass some of heights of 2 feet! its great it never bogs going through high wet grass, its a great old work horse! 2 Triumph66 and HeadExam reacted to this
HeadExam 1,783 #2 Posted November 7, 2015 Those were great old push mowers, very well engineeered. 1 Joe the small engine man reacted to this
Triumph66 1,256 #3 Posted November 7, 2015 I have been tempted to buy a mulching mower myself and have yet to see a Bolens one in the flesh as it were. I nearly bought a Bolens sickle mower a while ago but decided not to go for it in the end. They do look to be well made. I guess it's a Briggs & Stratton engine? HeadExam 1,783 #4 Posted November 7, 2015 Andrew, the Bolens mulching mower has been around since the early 1960s, I think you would find it a very capable machine. 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
HeadExam 1,783 #5 Posted November 8, 2015 Here's a couple from the 1960's. I believe Bolens started making a mulching mower before 1960. These were called the Orbit Air, and they are very collectible. 2 Triumph66 and Joe the small engine man reacted to this
Triumph66 1,256 #6 Posted November 8, 2015 I like the look of the solidity of those earlier Bolens mower. I have not seen one of these over here but have seen several of the later Bolens/MTD ones on Ebay.

I have not seen one of these over here but have seen several of the later Bolens/MTD ones on Ebay. Here's a mid to late 80s model, I think was made while GardenWay still owned them, before MTD. BTW, the handle in front adjusted the front wheels. 2 Triumph66 and Joe the small engine man reacted to this

I nearly bought a Bolens sickle mower a while ago but decided not to go for it in the end. They do look to be well made. I guess it's a Briggs & Stratton engine? its a 5hp Briggs, that ive just serviced at my business (new oil, filters, sparkplug, blade sharpen) These Bolens, of what ive heard fetch around £60-£75 so cheap for what they are Regards Joe the handle is the same on mine to adjust, its also a front wheel drive with a pulley under the front cover. 2 Triumph66 and HeadExam reacted to this
HeadExam 1,783 #9 Posted November 8, 2015 I have a feeling that there could be quite a few Bolens push mowers over your way, but many may have been overlooked if not still carrying the decals. 1 Joe the small engine man reacted to this
Joe the small engine man 89 #10 Posted November 8, 2015 it seems around wales (UK), there is a lot of small engine tractors which sit for years at farms or just abandoned in sheds, because people don't know how much there worth or what they are!
