Fantastic help the knowledge on this group in amazing, thank you.
I will clean as you have described and will be sure to update on the results when done.
It came with no air filter or housing sadly so I can't comment on that (now obtained) and it had some other bits broken or missing but was 99% complete.
I dont know it's history but seems to be a sad one, new lease of life with me now.

Good grief that's some transformation!
What did you use to remove the carbon from chamber piston and valves?
From what I have read this is a result of the throttle shaft play running it lean and warping the head so with head sorted and it's new carb I should be sorted....hopefully.
Any tips on cleaning up the outside ready for engine paint? You seem well versed in these things.
Much appreciated

I think I have some safety glass lying around somewhere I'll give it a go, been reading up on red square and it seems quite a common diy job.
-
Thanks that's some really great info!
The carb is specific for the 16hp single Koehler and is exactly the same as the original other than the choke being different so I have swapped it over.
The original carb I will keep as I believe it can have the throttle shaft bushed (that was the issue with it) but I don't plan on this being a purist show horse right now if I'm honest.
I will give meetens a bell tomorrow and ask the genuine gasket cost as they were great to deal with before.
As for the carb settings I believe 2 turns will get it running and then I will just tune as normal. There really was a lot of air escaping the head so I'm not in the least bit shocked now that the a/r screw did nothing.
At least I've found the problem, I'm a little wary of skimming my own head what would a machine shop charge? May make me a bit braver if a lot lol
I'll check 1st with my feelers thanks for the tip on that
-
Head gasket my issue?
Genuine the best or is there a better option?
How do I know if it's warped/needs skimming?
Been sold a pup here lol
Cheers

It seems that the air/fuel idle screw has no bearing on the mixture. Wonder it I have an air leak.
Seems I have a problem, i can feel air coming from the head above the pot. Is my air leak a head gasket?
😔
-
Fired it up and it will run with the idle screw all the way in, give it choke and it dies, it sound a bit lumpy run with choke off and throttle shut.
I took air filter off and no change.
Is screw in rich or lean?
Thanks
When I shut it down I get this odd noise, never had it from a carb before

Morning all, I've looked at recovering my wheel horse seat and it's going to be expensive if even really possible.
Do you know where I can find a good yet cheap (I know...pick one lol) seat? I've seen the Clarke's ts5 seat, any more options?
Thanks
-
My god thanks for that it's been bugging me far too much
-
Great just the brake on a different shaft then.
Or do people call 8 speed the 6 speed because they don't count the 2 reverse gears?
-
It will but as I've got a new carb too I want to have it fitted...why I don't know but there ya go lol
-
Well after all that great info on wheel horse junkies I feel some what better, thanks for all the help on there Mark 👍
I've not dropped the oil yet as I want to make sure the engine runs well (just waiting on the filter then trying it) and then I'm moving onto the box.
I've seen the video guide on the 6 speed if that very similar to my 8 speed?
I feel out of my depth 😂 but excited by it all haha
-
Yeah for sure, I'm not too worried about that it's just a diesel flush it's the bearings I'm a bit concerned about, that and removing the hubs!
-
So, this seems to be becoming quite a big job this thing!
I have milky (but not brown) gearbox fluid, a bad shift boot that needs replacing, in low ratio it will happily shift 1 way between 2 gears and not the other and I have horizontal movement on the axle on the left hand side.
I think I'm looking at shift boot, seals, bearings and maybe a worn gear from shifting on the move?
It's got the larger axle.
Where can I get these parts in the UK and is it a diy job?
Thanks for any help!
-
As above I'm looking for a hub so I can use it to pull my hubs off safely.
Or if you know of another hub with the same stud pattern please let me know.
Thanks

Par36 the ones your thinking of mate? Just seen a post on red square and I believe they will fit! I think I only have one of the brackets though unfortunately
-
Is this a bolens?
I guess that's a pto on the front? If so what's a pto on the front used for?
Looks a tough tractor that
-
Cub cadet I didn't realise they were sealed round units in assuming there are holding clips/lugs on the back of the bonnet. That changes things a bit
-
Going to take look at the hardwear i have left on the bonnet Monday, I was too busy looking at the exhaust and points today lol.
-
I just have the square holes in the hood and think I will use led like you have. You can get sealed 3x3 and 4x4 cree work lamps that will do the job, I would give them a light tint to make then less terminator lol

Saved me getting one from America. Been asking all over last few days then 2 mins and sorted
need a new seat pan now before respray
-
So after seeing meetens recommended on here (thanks!) I just called about a filter and cover for my k341.
Paul answered and found the part number then gave me the outrageous rrp!
2 minutes later he's given me a fantastic price filter and all and I've given him my card.
They have a new customer for sure!
Very highly recommended

I've got a c165 and need some parts.
Kohler air filter cover (k341)
Metal seat pan
Front lights
I'm sure there's more but that's it for now.
Cheers for looking
