  1. Just rescued this from a local farmer who had it in his dry barn. Told me he had stored it for a few years, the engine is the Quantam 5 BHP I/C engine. Bag is really good. Took photos of it covered in years of dust ( which I can't post ). I have restored a couple of  Hayter 21's and an Osprey and made good money. My question is..... Shall I sell as a barn find or clean it up and a lick of paint as a restoration. This engine has a clean-new air filter, clean oil and new B&S plug, it started 3rd pull with new petrol. The engine sounds great. They seem to be commanding silly money and I don't need this machine. Regards and have a nice weekend Potash : )

  2. Looking for someone in East Anglia who can spoke a vintage wheel. The spokes are not available any more, they will have to be fabricated. We have the hub and vintage rim in good order. Looking for an old craftsman. I am near Southend, thanks for reading.  dancing banana

  3. Hope I have this in the right section. I am looking at this for an old mate. It is just out of warranty. Would not start this seaon, spark plug he said ?? There is in fact no fuel getting to the plug at all. I cleaned the carb as per a You-tube short film. Still no fuel. I fitted a brand new carb which was bought for another job. Still have a totally dry spark plug. Help please and happy Easter.

  4. Fitted the new diaphragm today, couple of pulls to prime it and off it went. Warmed it up and engaged the drive and off it went. Another one saved from the breakers. I think this still has the original spark plug. Will service it and advertise on ebay. I will bring my Hayter 21 home from the garden centre and see if she runs. A very clean 21 indeed.

  5. I have just bought one of these diaphragms ( 391681 ) for one of my spare Harrier 2. Got it from Ebay for £7.00 free delivery. Last one I bought from Ernest Does over the counter was £13.00. Even if the old diaphragm looks ok it probably is tired and prevents starting. An older thread but it may help someone.

  6. I have acquired my first Harrier 2 which is very tidy. The owner praised the machine, but said the drive may need freeing off. ?? I am busy finishing a Hayterette restoration, so I thought I would put the question to the forum. Are these similar drives to the Osprey or what am I up against. Many thanks.

  7. I seem to have adopted a few Hayterettes of late. I have restored one and fitted a good sprint engine. The cutting disc fitted fine and it all looked very smart. Pulling the starter rope is a nightmare as the sheer weight of the cutting disc does not get enough momentum to fire up unless you are a heavy weight wrestler. Can any of you chaps suggest a good replacement modern engine that does not have the same issues. Many thanks.

PS If anyone needs a good solid Hayterette deck ( or two ) let me know.

  8.   I have come across a strange looking rough cutter that is going begging locally, described as follows.

Wheeled Lawn Trimmer Grass Paddock trimmer Field/Lawnmower Mower 6hp/ briggs & stratton engine / 4 stroke/ intek OHV . The two wheels are like small bicycle wheels. The blades are in fact heavy gauge flails  that spins on a rota which is visible at the front of the machine.

Painted orange. Described as a DR Mower-Trimmer. It has heavy duty handles and is walk behind. There is a large rectangular shield behind the blades to protect the operator.

Does anyone know what make this is, the age and value new. Are they any good ?

Sorry cannot post pictures on here.

      Regards

  9. I bought this second hand after a lady tried to renew the primmer bulb with a hammer and chisel. The carb was mutilated. Sent off for a new replacement which was cheap enough. Would it start !!!! NO. It started with the primmer fuel then cut out straight away. After a bit of head scratching I discovered that the main jet had not been drilled out at the factory. I fitted the old main jet and it started first time and ran great. Thought I would share this with the forum members : ) Don't take anything for granted, I had the same problem with a pilot jet on my Lambretta.
