Tom 215 #1 Posted February 16, 2015 Hi all, I acquired another couple of barford atoms the other day and set about getting one of them going. I cleaned and reset points and then setup the magneto timing, cleaned carb and reassembled. It ran first pull however after about 30 seconds the inside of the exhaust was cherry red and it was starting to spit flames. It would spit flames constantly. I let it cool and started it again and it did the same thing. Why is this? Is it something to do with fuel? Any help would be greatly appreciated! S1g 579 #2 Posted February 16, 2015 It's either your trimming out or the exhaust is coked up with carbon.
Tom 215 #3 Posted February 16, 2015 Hi, If my timing was out would it still run nice though? It runs very smoothly it's just the flame issue. I will de-carbon the head one evening this week and put a better exhaust on it. Thanks, Tom
Chris 642 #4 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) Too mutch fuel?? May have to ajust the float level & try again Or try another carb of another running machine & try that Edited February 16, 2015 by Chris
Wristpin 400 #5 Posted February 16, 2015 Too much fuel will tend to make the engine "sound heavy" but your problem is possibly caused by weak mixture. Try closing the choke just a fraction an see if it improves things.
