Series 1 Rotary Hoe Restoration

I thought some of you would like to see my earlier restoration of the big orange beast, my Series 1 Rotary Hoe. I know some of you have seen it before so I wont bore you with the full story, but I will just highlight the starting point and what I ended up with.

The rotavator had quite a few problems, wear and rust being the main culprits. The gearbox was completely worn out, needing replacement gears and bearings. The rust bunnies had eaten some of the frame, cylinder head and rotor covers.

The finish on this restoration is a mixture of 2 pack paint and powder coating. Here are the parts will their fresh clothes on.

Then it was time to put it all back together.

Then add the finishing touches from Titch.....

Hi Neil, yes it is, and no Im afraid this one wont be back in the dirt........ Although everything works, its cost me a small fortune to restore and I wouldn't want to risk doing any damage.

Here it is finished, Well almost........ still one or two nuts and bolts to paint.

Thanks guys, I have a restored little brother of the Series 1, A 50s Howard Bantam with the Villiers Mk15HS powering it. Unfortunately cant start a new topic about that one as I seem to have reached my picture limit?

Exceptional !...all you can say really. I remember a model like that type being used at my school in the early sixties when they used to have Rural Science Lessons for some Age Groups. Had a sneaky go myself. Beast of a machine. Good colour as well if you need a change from Red.

Yes, re the colour, not something you could really hide in the hedge! I do have the original cleated steel wheels too. But I have a block drive and 300 kilos thumping along would do untold damage to it!

Hi Darmac1 Joined up tonight ....looks a great site....great to see your Howard gem posted up here....I am as you know restoring a similar machine...will try and post photo later in week....not going to reach your standard though!!!
