  1. Had a go at the engine today and it is running, took a while mind you so touch wood all ok now.

Time to strip the rest down and try and find out some history on it. It has a fox of bishops Waltham dealer sticker on it and they are 5-6 miles away from me so I will see if they can shed some light on it.

  2. Hi All,

  3. Hi All. Good news. I spoke to john at the mower centre hailsham and described the problem to him.  He told me to look at the underneath of the coil to see if it had a brass plate and does it have a lug at the top (IT HAS BOTH)  the lug is the stop switch and the brass plate is the electronic ignition. Cleaned all the rust off the flywheel and reset the armature then wound it over with a drill and it has a lovely spark. Will see if it runs tomorrow.

Thanks for everybodys help, I will put some pics up tomorrow for you Mr Mackellow but pretty sure the badge says little wonder patent Southampton and somewhere in America will look tomorrow.

    THANKS AGAIN ALL

  4. Hi All, having a bit of a problem, I have a little lawn edger with a 3hp Briggs and Stratton engine on  which wouldn't go so went to try the common things  as the points and found there wasn't any neither a condenser, the coil is there with a lug on it which goes to the throttle so presume its a stop switch. When looking further I found out that  the engine had no hole for the peg that holds the points arm spring on also no hole or plunger to operate the points. So cant figure out how it worked ? was it electronic? Hope someone can help. The engine numbers are 80232-2222-01-88060803post-109-0-93292000-1399663245.jpg

  5. Got this cultivator today, don't know who its made by yet (haven't hunted around it for makers name) but found some Bamfords spanners with it. It has come from the same farm as my president so hopefully I will restore it and the president can pull it.

  6. I have just looked at some paperwork I have and the point gap is saying what you thought 0.020 and the plug 0.030. So I would say you have a good memory.

  7. Hi all. I have spoken to various people and most say the same, either freeze the guides to shrink them or heat the block to expand it.

I have also spoke to the company that are sorting out my crankshaft and they can do them with a special tool they have, so best left to the experts I think.

  8. Hi all,

I am just getting round to putting the valve guides into the block. Have they got to be pressed in or can they be hammered in? I presume if you hammer them in they might splay out as it isn't constant pressure as the press would be. Any advise would be great as I don't want to break anything.

  9. I remember not so long ago, a apprentice at work thought he new it all and was using a thin cutting disc for mild steel to cut aluminium. He was advised not to do it but learnt the hard way, it exploded and stuck in his leg. As all us welder/fabricators know or the posh title that confuses everyone Fusion technicians. Aluminium will clog the disc up then shatter.

  10. HI ALL

just some more pics. I have sorted all the wheels and tyres out now, just need to put the wheel weights back on the front, hydraulics sorted out but think I might have to replace the seals(will see when up and running). post-109-0-16852100-1395591686.jpgpost-109-0-48032700-1395591715.jpgpost-109-0-59309900-1395591744.jpgpost-109-0-71373400-1395591773.jpgEven the dog likes it as a sun hat

  11. Thanks for that matt, now you say it it, I do recall Titch saying he was moving house but couldn't remember when. As for my old girl, I am hope'ing  to get my final back wheel painted and the new tyre put on this weekend. Looking at the weather though I don't hold much hope so it will be a case of going in the nice warm shed and sorting the engine out. Nice to see some more of these reds on here as well.
