  1. The fuel tank looks like it came from a motorcycle...very usual looking machine....would love to hear it running on you tube when its back in action.
  2. Hi Gareth I always had it in my head that the early British built Howard gems had the BJ engine...didn't realise that the jap engine was available in the those first few hundred machines. Was expecting the ruggerni version to be bigger horsepower. Any idea when the last British Juniors engines were made?
  3. The Dowseswell looks like it had a hard life...what horsepower is it ? its a big engine compared to what powered the earlier machine. Hope you get the parts for the earlier BJ gem , ive got to like the British junior engine (working on one at present as you know ) but cant stop checking oil tank to be sure oil is pumping back to tank!!!,,,,,,looks similiar to the earlier australia built Aj engine.
  4. Have been using standard tractor paint.....no resistance to petrol....the enamel paint would be a solution, must check it out.
  5. No S1g ..its nuffield orange!!!...should be Fordson orange of course. Grt to see you back in action on the rare Howard 800. TKs Richard for sliiping in PDF link above...checked out your photos ....will have to track down a wheelhorse....like their kohler engines ..have one on my 1970;s Howard gem (K301T).
  6. The engine is a jap 5 ...made in London by John Arthur Prestwich....with a good exhaust it sounds great...low reving and even/quiet. Will put up video on you tube when i haul it out of shed for next vintage show (running) but in the meantime here is a youtube link to a 2011 gathering of 25 anzani iron horses making a world record attempt at a ploughing event in the Uk. Mick Green who features in the video was invaluble to me in supplying a lot of parts and is the expert on these machines
  7. Purchased this in 2012 (eBay) and restored last winter/ spring . It was in poor condition and the engine was shot ..so replaced original engine with one of same type ..a jap 5 with heavy flywheel and wipac mag. It was a nightmare to move on metal wheels so later type wheels fitted on those hard to get 600x 22 tyres . It was made in 1946.
  8. Hi Darmac1 Joined up tonight ....looks a great site....great to see your Howard gem posted up here....I am as you know restoring a similar machine...will try and post photo later in week....not going to reach your standard though!!!
