It always helps when you are doing the work yourself and not having to rely on trade men finding the time. Its a good job i am a Jack of all trades.

Got the ceiling finished off today and cleaned it all out ready for some painting. Going tomorrow to get the wall and floor paint.

This is Gary (Minky) on his home built. Just before it got painted.Pulling well with only a 3.5hp engine.

Found this and had to share it.

A bit more progress made on the workshop.
8 double sockets wired and working, same on opposite walls.
2 x 5ft double fluorescent lights with 2 10w LED flood lights for over the work-bench.
Got about half of the insulation board up so far.
To do list - finish ceiling, paint walls white, paint bottom of wall dark grey, paint floor, build work-bench and install some type of heating, then sit down and have a rest !

Would anyone have any information on these tractors or what the parts availabilty would be, we think we have found one.
My mate an myself went to see an "old garden tractor" this evening but when we got there the lights in the shed wouldn't work so ended up stumbleing about in the dark with only our mobile phones to see where we were going. The only name we can see is "American" on the bonnet everything else seems to be painted over. Of course i forgot to take photos but what we could see it might be a Squire 12.
Any info would be very helpfull, Noel.

My main garage is about 5 miles away from where i live but you cant really nip up to it for twenty minutes work while your waiting for your dinner, so i decided to clear out one of my old pig houses which was a job on its own and use that as a lawnmower workshop. Its amazing how much junk you can gather up in a short time.
Sorry about the photo quality of the photos, very dim lights and mobile phones just dont seem to go together very well.
First job was to lower the celing height and put up some foil backed insulation board,it should make it a bit easier to heat in the winter and cooler in the summer. Also need to wire up new wall sockets and decent lights.
Will stick up some more photos when i get a bit more done.

Thanks for all the info, may need more help in the future as this is my first Wheelhorse.
While im posting this i may as well ask, what would you use to reattach the friction material to the brake band ? Mine has come off in one peice, its in good condition with no oil contamination so should be ok.
One more, air filter, would you have a part number or could point me to a stockist ?
Thanks again, Noel.

Thanks for all the information, i was getting a bit confused when the name and model number didn't tally up.
Is the Raider 12 the same as a 12HP 8 speed as i cant find a manuel for the 12hp 8 speed ?
There is a strap across two of the wheel studs which seems to be holding the axle in. Any ideas why it might be there ?
Last question, there is a tag on the bonnet and i cant seem to find any reference to what the number means, can anyone shed some light on it ?
Thanks, Noel.

Really dont know yet, first thing is to get the engine running and then make sure everything else works. Its going to get used for ploughing so dont know whether to restore it or not. Might not want to use it if its all shiny.
-
Now i've gone and done it, bought a Wheelhorse today !
Picked up a Raider 12 (well i think thats what it is) for £250.
It says on the side Raider 12 but when i cross referenced the model number from the tag it says it is a 12HP 8 Speed. My info says the Raider 12 was made up untill 1972 with a different serial number, my serial number (1-0350) is for a 1973 12HP 8 Speed.
So, is my info wrong or is my Wheelhorse a bitsa ?

Got to see the Wheelhorses (and quite a few other makes) to day, had my choice of a Raider 12 or a C-81. They both seemed to be very similar and in rot free condition, both engines turned over with compression but neither started, eventually plumped for the Raider 12.
-
What have i started ? LOL
Thanks guys for all your suggestions. So, as long as it is no younger than 1982 with a horizontal shaft engine and a heavy back end it wont matter if it is mechanical or hydro, correct ?
Noel.

Hope his is in the correct section.
I am going to see a collection of Wheelhorses during this week, with a view to buying one.
My question is ;- i dont know which models of tractors he has but which model or models would be best suited to ploughing ?
I have been told that hydrostatic tractors cant handle the constant stress of pulling a plough very well.
Any help would be much appricated.
Noel.

Got my front hubs today, very happy with how they turned out. Total cost of all parts and machine work £60.
Now that i can measure the width of the front axle i can make a start on narrowing the rear axle. The Vitara axle has a offset diff so i need to remove 280mm from one axle tube and 320mm from the other. Once cut i will add a sleve to strengthen the tube and the half shafts will be sent out to be shortened.
Need to go now and get a lend of a slide hammer to get the half shafts out and then the cutting can begin.

I suppose i my explain why Make a Wish sent us to Logo Land.
Just over a year ago my youngest girl Cariss who was then 5, was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma a rare and aggressive form of childrens cancer. She has had various treatments over the last year to try and stop this cancer but it is being very resilient to all the treatments.
When Cariss was diagnosed at the start her big sister Korin wanted to do something to help, so with the help of her older cousins started to organise fund raising events. To date she has raised over £16000 for various cancer charities. She has a page on facebook, https://m.facebook.com/korinsfundraisingevents/?fref=ts which details upcomming events and Cariss' progress.
This is Cariss

Having a ball of a time in Lego Land with my wife and kids. A big thank you to Make A Wish charity for sending my little girl on a holiday of a life time.

Here is a photo of my Grandfather(driving) with his first tractor. We think it was in the early 50's, go by the age of my mother and two uncles. I would love to have this tractor today but i think it was exported to South Africa. Is there any way to find out if it is still in the UK?
Another old photo of my mum when she was about sixteen on her way to feed the hens. Could you picture asking a teenager to do this today!

Another part ticked off the list today, think its from a Fordson Dexta.
The centre of the seat was completely rotten so had to be cut out and repaired. Still need to get a centre bolt and seat spring.
-
Got my gearbox last night. It is a 4 speed and reverse, ratios are - 1st 7.1, 2nd 3.25, 3rd 1.75, 4th 1.0 and reverse is 7.1.
I was told it was a Bedford CF box but im not so sure. Can anyone help me to identify it? The only markings i can find are two numbers, one on the side. 7081840 No1
And one on the top cover,
Any ideas ?
-
You got it.
Might need to widen it a bit to fit the chassis. Suppose it will end up looking a bit like the front of a Morris Minor bonnet.
-
Nope! But your not far away.
