Charlie Smith 192 #1 Posted March 18, 2014 Hello All, I'm just curious as to this, does anybody know?..... Right the everyday ride on lawnmowers, eg, Westwood, MTD or mountfield etc, normally have 3-4 forward gears and 1 reverse gear, Would it do any harm to the gear box, or wear it out? Or do anything if it was to never drive forward only backwards? So never go into 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th just stay in reverse and drive everywhere in reverse? I know it's a silly question, Charlie. meadowfield 1,900 #2 Posted March 18, 2014 Reverse is usually uses an idler gear which in many transmissions is a plain bearing (wheelhorse and peerless anyway) I wouldn't recommend it on those, what are you trying yo do Charlie???
