  1. Possibility of a new crank shaft from a stock in Canada!!!!
  2. Found some -60 shells in Malta so all may not be lost.
  3. Possibility crank journal may be shot, going to take it down to -30 thou with a set of -40 in reserve but that is about the limit so I may need an MG5/6/40 crankshaft if anyone has one. I must stop letting people have my spares for their projects I had a spare myself until about 3 months ago but let it go to another needy project.
  4. Dont know where you live. Tom is looking for you for some Wheelhorse gearbox bits.
  5. I see you have sneaked a pulley on to the flexi drive coupling/clutch case, is that for a pump or a dynamo? If you are after lights, I bought a pair of brand new ford Dexta lights off Flea bay for £28.
  6. Crank should be ready next week. Taken it to gavin today.
  7. Spent most of the day making up a guard to go around the digger valve block to protect the driver if a pipe burst. Used parts from a Ransomes grass box!!
  8. Taking it to Rumney at Silloth who I think is the guy you mean, he used to have a crawler ,I bought all the implements off him some years ago.Just waiting for the parts to arrive.
  9. Stripped out the engine, big end journal is badly scored, looks as if previous engine owner fitted new shells to a scored crank and subsequent wear debris has blocked oil feed. A lesson to be learned when buying parts, I checked big end for play when I had piston off but did not strip it to actually look at it. Engine has run for about 20 minutes before serious rattle started and oil pressure disappeared.I will now replace all crank bearings and timing chain and then I know for sure that every bearing in the whole tractor is as spec from new.
  10. Titch sanders at Machinery Decals supplied the decals and some unique ones for the dozer copied from an original brochure picture. Thanks Titch. Most of the new parts came from Neil Jarrett and Stennets of Ipswich. Without these guys our hobby would be a lot harder.
  11. Just finished sorting all the hydraulics and it works a treat. Unfortunately the engine has developed an awful knock, the only thing not touched in the rebuild was the big end as it seemed ok, now have to strip it all out. Anyone got a good spare engine?
  12. Looks good enough for loading a Ransomes dumper skip making a useful pair.
  13. Certainly has it was a Yorkshire Water Dumper which I bought from a guy in Suffolk! Minus engine and skip. I had heard of a digger that would bolt in to the Chassis and found a company in France that still made them. I have dropped it lower in the frame to increase the digging depth. The dozer blade is an original ransomes Ramdozer I bought off a lad called Henry down in Kent years ago. I used the original frame to make the blade mounting. It also has an electric start, dynamo and lights I mounted a lucas Dynastart above the gearbox driving a large pulley bolted to the back of the flywheel. Ransomes had a similar set up on some of the ITW machines just driving a dynamo but that worked on a pulley on the clutch casing. I still have a new set of track pads to fit and some of the hydraulics to connect once I have changed the connectors and shortened some of the hoses. The dozer has full side tilt both ways for spreading and snowploughing as well as acting as a ground anchor for digging. Many thanks to my friend Rhys who carried out the re furb of the main tub and track gear. ( only another twelve to do Rhys)
  14. A lot of these machines were painted green at the factory. Does the lift work like a winch off the pto? Have you a rear view photo?
  15. Hi Nathan Fuel pipe runs along the floor up the front of the gearbox and is then posted through the brake band chamber through the hole in the right hand side as you sit on the seat. Alternatively you can route it underneath and come up at the carb side of the engine as per MG6 and 40.
  16. Try putting the assembly in the freezer if it is an aluminium piston it may shrink enough to break the bond.
  17. Hi Nathan The standard silencer is about 7" dia. and about 4" deep but looks very similar to the one you have made, no wadding in it though.
  18. Nathan I have an old original dumper exhaust which has been blown by a backfire you are welcome to it if you want to either repair it or copy for a new one. Alternatively you can buy a new one from Steenet and Son , Ipswich who still have some old stock.
  19. Easy way to fit a hydraulic pump is to buy a clutch cover from Neil Jarret that has a vee belt pulley fitted, you can then mount a pump in the engine bay driven by the belt. The dumpers and tractors are identical only the seat is mounted on the oil tank for the dumpers and the steering brake levers reversed. As the MG6 has three forward and the same three reverse gears it makes no difference which way round they drive. It is feasible to set the truck up so that you can swap seating ends according to what you are wanting to do.
  20. Just acquired a couple of ancient Ransomes Mowers from the late b1930's both are fitted with the TB type engine fitted to the MG2 crawlers. One is a 30" cut which I am using to cut the grass and keep fit ( you have to run behind it ) the other is a 36" monster. I have been searching for a roller seat which is why I bought the 36" only to discover that my neighbour had one buried in the undergrowth of his garden not 20ft away from my house!
  21. Wait until you see the latest model. Just been fitting up the petrol engine with a dynastart unit working on to the flywheel looks good and even seems to work !
  22. Hi Stormin I have indeed signed up. My collection started as a result of trying to find an MG6 I used to own about 30 years ago, I was hard up and had to sell it, it went to a guy in Brampton Cumbria that had just built a bungalow with a very large garden. Posted an ad in the local paper which produced a response from three MG owners. One of them had a crawler in use as a flower pot! The one I sold had a full set of implements including a rotovator and a gang mower and had extra wide tracks as I used it on the peat bogs. I now have a collection of 15 including a very rare Whitlock loader of which only three are known. My aim is to collect one of each model produced between 1934 and 1963 including the various engine options and the implements to go with them. I am always on the look out for these machines if anyone knows of one on wheels I would love to hear. PS never did find my old MG6, but bought the three from the paper!
  23. Hi Norman and Nathan I have two dumpers one complete and operational and another which I am restoring. Having a clear out of machines i have duplicates of so if anyone wants an MG5 or MG2 let me know I have three to go. I also have some spares for the dumper.I guess you will know of the two sources of new spares for all crawlers Nathan but if not give me a shout. My current searches are for an MG40 with Sachs Diesel engine and the wheeled version of the MG6 known as an ITW. Both my dumpers originated from Headingley water works in Yorkshire, I suspect that yours Nathan may have been a working Partner as I know they were sold off as a job lot some years ago, one went to a light railway for ballast transport. I have recently bought a 30" and a 36" pair of Ransomes lawnmowers powered by a version of the MG2 engine I have the 30" running and am now in training to be able to run fast enough to use it.
