I started this hobby as a chainsaw collector, mostly Homelite, as it seems like you did. Then I discovered these mini saws and other attachments, realizing that I could fit more of these in to a smaller space! When I got my first one running and heard that cool airplane sound, it was all over. I still have a few pristine Homelites, though.
So, are you thinking it was the decal vendor that messed up on the spelling, but they used them anyway? Or, was there a copyright thing going on? It’s nice to confirm that I was correct with my restoration, because it has been bothering me ever since! Thanks for the photo John.
Compared to the "A" in "SAW", it looks nothing like an "A" and more like an "O". My brain was a little sharper back then and I'm glad I wasn't losing it. I'm pretty sure that I did mine to original specs.
Yes, I am aware of the decal being correct. Unfortunately I did not take a before photo. If you look at John's closely, it does not look like a "A". I knew that I was spelling with an "O" for a reason at the time.
John, can you tell 100% that it says "Bunyan" instead of "Bunyon"? I could have sworn that mine was spelled wrong and I put it back the way that it was. From what I can recall, there were some pretty good remnants left on mine.
Make sure that everything is put back together correctly. Insulating washers, conductor spring on points, etc. Can you post a photo of your points, installed?
If that is an Octura modified engine, you may want to see if it has the rare and special rotary valve instead of the reed valve. If so, you scored big.
I'm the guy that used to sell the diaphragms on ebay, probably about 600 of them. I'm pretty much done with that, but there are plenty of fellas that took over. I'm also the one with the two Youtube videos riding a Micro Power, one was my son and is kinda funny how slow he is going. I sold the one in the video and still have another one that has never been fired up, bought both from the same guy. Good luck finding a Grasshopper, I looked for years and could not find the right size and color. I would settle with a plaid one, which seems more common, just have to find a big one.
