  1. Hello Paul, Agreed, it is a very nice machine. When I saw it I was tempted. Philip
  2. Hello Charlie, Just wondered what your trailer wheels had written on them?

    BOLENS STASH UPDATE

It was good to have caught up again, although very briefly with Iain, Tom & Toms dad; the weather was certainly better this time. Having already been there for longer than i had said to the family, i couldn't hang around to help with the lathe, sorry. Plus i'd run out of energy myself. , not as fit as i used to be. Cracking photos I was pretty impressed with Chris's Bolens; nice to finally put a face to a machine that i'd seen at a show.

Thanks Paul, It may have to sit in the corner whilst i get work & some already started stationary engine restorations finished. For me it's more about it's size & looks than rarity especially if my children can take an interest from it

Thanks Ian, looking at it's simple construction i expect one could be made
  6. I've been doing the same, putting different names before trailer, cart, dump cart, old cart etc. I had looked at Wheelhorse i.e, LTD-24, 242 & the like but they're different. The next search is of manufacturers that paint their gear green

Yes i think so. I didn't initially know but after some research found it was.

Glad you like it Chris As you know i'll be in touch if i need to
  9. Hello Charlie, Yep i believe it's the same one . I thought your wheels were originals & initially had in mind that mine was a good home build. The green on this one is a bit brighter than olive although i'm not sure what colour it will end up being. Once it's up together you can always borrow it or meet up at a show. Now there's two the sameish it would be good to find out the proper maker. Philip

Good evening. Just thought i'd share a few photos of the latest attachment for the Wheelhorse RJ. I believe it's a CBR-32. Its a bit of a squeeze but does clear everything although the snow blade bracket will have to be removed to allow it to lift fully. My children thought it was ok but were more thrilled wth the trailer Philip
  11. Good evening, Having recently bought a trailer I noticed similarities with Charlies. This one has pneumatics but again not fully sure of maker. I know some early Wheelhorse trailers had swivel tube front end. There is traces of green in a few places. Quite a weighty trailer to. Philip

Hello Iain, Likewise, it was good to meet yourself & Tom at the weekend although the weather could of been kinder on Sunday. As you say there's not many blades that have done that many miles but thank you & Tom for bringing it back to Surrey, or Sussex where i am. Philip

Evening All, Having acquired the front blade for the RJ at the weekend i thought i'd put up a few photos of it more or less complete. The rear plough, which is a Barford Atom item, is the one that was used on the RJ by the previous owner; disc to be found. When the blade arrived home my 5 year old son was chuffed to bits; jumping around with excitement. His 2 year old sister however didn't know what the fuss was all about but joined in jumping anyway. I'll take it to a couple of shows as is before restoration starts although i don't want to end up with it in bits if i need it in any snow
  14. Evening, I noticed in a Central Spares catalogue (mower parts etc) that they mention a Wheelhorse red. They should be online. Philip
  15. Afternoon, I believe the engine was made on 14th June 1978 so possibly a 78 machine being midway through the year? Philip
  16. Certainly looks like a Petter. The carb & governor rod look similar to Petter A1. The cowling may be for a certain application but I'll do some more research. Philip
  17. Oh, sorry Chris. Wrong end of the stick. As mentioned i'm only up the road really. Do you get to the local shows, Wiston, Rudgwick etc with your machinery?
  18. Hello Chris, I'm not far from you, the other side of Billingshurst. I don't actually need another project at the mo; i was just interested in case any crossed my path in the future. Thank You anyway. Regards, Philip
  19. Blimey! I didn't want to cause a riot. Only kidding. I never realized there were so many differences & models. Thank You to you all. If i come across anything fancy i'll inform accordingly. I know i keep a late light green Bolens (Briggs V twin) going for a customer but can't think of anything older around at the mo. It was just in case. p.s i think i heard mention of a Bolens with loader late last year but i can't be sure. I'll have to remember where i heard it. Night Night Philip

    My Wheelhorse

Hello Paul, Thank you for the welcome. When i first found the Wheelhorse i thought yourself or showman would know more about it than i. I'm normally working on later machinery with maybe a Raider 12 occasionally coming in for a "get going" being the oldest machine.
  21. Thanks Iain, as far as i remember ride-a-matics are green & yellow with heavy looking rounded hoods. How do large frames differ from tube frames or standard frames. Also how do Husky Bolens fit in? Philip

    My Wheelhorse

Hi Iain. The wheel weights were handy for the chap i got it from as he used it for ploughing. They do however increase its weight by quite a bit.
  23. Good evening all. I just wanted to put a question out regarding unusual Bolens machines. Which models are hard to find / rare in the uk? I occasionally see the odd Husky Bolens & lighter green & white ride on mower in my day to day work but never given it much thought? Regards Philip

I wouldn't mind leaving as is but it's the wrong colour. Also i've got stationary engines in oily rag condition so fancied something shiny. I'll see what opinion is nearer the time.

Hello Chris, As you know, i've never been heavily into horticultural machinery as i've been brought up around stationary engines & later got into larger tractors. Working on garden machinery for a living can put you off playing with them at weekends but this tractor just seemed different; especially if the children are keen in it. Thanks for the welcome Chris. Regards, Philip
