  1. Thanks lads. this forum is a learning curve. Using a carpentry G Clamp I managed to grip it without causing damage. Yes another paint job. I have three Haterette's to restore. Really lucky two of them released the cutting disc by undoing the nut, wasted £16 on a step drill. Regards Colin
  2. I am restoring a good B & S small Hayterette Engine, the exhaust is in very good condition. However I want to get the screw in exhaust out without causing any damage. It seems to be stuck fast, help please. Regards Colin
  3. The buyer/bidder never showed up. It is back on ebay under lawn mowers. Maldon Essex. Buy it now £80
  4. Thanks for replies, that is the one. It sold for £54 on ebay, gutted.
  5. I have come across a strange looking rough cutter that is going begging locally, described as follows. Wheeled Lawn Trimmer Grass Paddock trimmer Field/Lawnmower Mower 6hp/ briggs & stratton engine / 4 stroke/ intek OHV . The two wheels are like small bicycle wheels. The blades are in fact heavy gauge flails that spins on a rota which is visible at the front of the machine. Painted orange. Described as a DR Mower-Trimmer. It has heavy duty handles and is walk behind. There is a large rectangular shield behind the blades to protect the operator. Does anyone know what make this is, the age and value new. Are they any good ? Sorry cannot post pictures on here. Regards
  6. It was a pattern part, however some parts were in fact brass in lieu of B & S plastic, it was well made apart from the main jet. I was not going to throw a lot of money at an older engine.
  7. Fitted the blade and job done after a slight carb issue which I have just posted on another thread.
  8. I bought this second hand after a lady tried to renew the primmer bulb with a hammer and chisel. The carb was mutilated. Sent off for a new replacement which was cheap enough. Would it start !!!! NO. It started with the primmer fuel then cut out straight away. After a bit of head scratching I discovered that the main jet had not been drilled out at the factory. I fitted the old main jet and it started first time and ran great. Thought I would share this with the forum members : ) Don't take anything for granted, I had the same problem with a pilot jet on my Lambretta.
  9. Easy I thought. All the sprints I have worked on have a nut holding on the flywheel. This one must be older as the starter mechanism is fitted over the flywheel. I have pullers but cannot see how it comes off so I can change the key. Thanks lads. Many thanks, what a superb set of tools, a bit like my Norton BSA kit. I fitted the boss but not the blade as yet. Have put my tools away for the next couple of days. Merry Xmas to everyone.

  12. Thanks Chris, job looks easy. End of thread, merry Xmas.
  13. Must admit I did clump on the blade boss, would that have sheared the flywheel key. ?? Many thanks
  14. I took the 375 engine that was running well off of a rusty deck and fitted it onto a new deck. I also fitted a brand new carb that I had. It started once then cut out, now it is kicking back on the pull start like an old BSA motorbike, almost smashed my knuckles to bits on the recoil. I thought the timing was factory set. It was fine before removal. Info appreciated.
  15. Hi S1G. I currently have a Hayter 21 which is solid and all there. Two Hayterettes that run well. One Hayterette with no spark and a Mountfield auto. Yesterday I was given two petrol Hedge Trimmers, one Mac Allister which now runs great and a McCulloch Superlite which looks almost new. They can all wait till the seasons are right. There are some strange prices on the Hayterettes on ebay, they can keep dreaming. Great hobby. The ebayers make me laugh when they state that they have not tried to start the engine. LOL
  16. Running fine on the carb lever, no issues whatsoever.
  17. As you may have gathered from my posts, I restore mowers etc for a hobby. I have bought for £50 and turned an Osprey into £300 in a few weeks. The money helps but I get satisfaction doing these in my retirement. Bit shocked to find two modern non running Hayters just sold on ebay for £4.20 pence. There are two rough cuts ( 21's ) on there at the moment for £39 each. Obviously the time of year is causing the slump. Wish I had some storage room as these mowers are normally snapped up during the rest of the year. I get offered tractors and machines from local farmers, but again not enough room. No questions here, just thought I would add to a quiet forum this time of year. Merry Christmas. Colin.
  18. This runs and blows well, BUT is blowing out engine oil. I suspect a crankshaft seal ?? Shall I throw it down the tip or can it be repaired without a load of aggravation. many thanks Colin
  19. Many thanks. It would seem to be the unmolested engine. I have two with the same problem, so it will be a learning curve. Many thanks.
  20. I have an old hayterette from the sixties. I have no spark and need to look behind the flywheel. I have never had to remove one of these. Advice / diagram's would be helpful. I have cleaned the flywheel and set the airgap, very weak belt from the HT lead. Help please and merry Xmas.
  21. Just a quick question. Just rebuilt the engine. The drive shaft has two slots on the drive shaft for the woodruff key, do I use the one nearest the engine. It has a self drive boss fitted.
  22. I am going to try and run it on automatic throttle and see how it cuts, any advice on this would be welcome as i have just bought two more of these great little mowers. Thanks for replies.
  23. Thanks Mr. Mad, perfect. Will have to build another shed, far too many mowers for the time of year.
  24. Hi Lads. Bought another Hayter rough cut ! Are the screw in exhausts still about or do I have to search for a second hand one. Hayterette model ... thanks.
