  1. Mine is not Briggs and Stratton, it is an OHV engine with a carb with float bowl .
  2. Had this little mower a couple of years, it's been good. Today I primed it and it started straight away, it cut out after a few seconds. This happened several times. Main jet blocked I am thinking, starting on the primer then running out of fuel ! I just stripped the cab and cleaned it out, carb cleaner, fuse wire etc. Now it starts and runs, but the revs are going up and down caused by movement of the governor arm. It will not settle even by adjustment of the throttle stop, Is there a pilot jet I have missed. Help please.

  4. Thanks lads, the Walbro link is very good.
  5. I have been working on two and four stroke engines since the 1960's and have no real issues. I recently acquired my first petrol second hand strimmer. Can someone tell me how the fuel system works please on these little two strokes. I have seen loads for sale on ebay that have fuel issues, the carb and fuel lines ? Is there anything I can read up on. I have pulled the carb to bits and they seem very intricate. Currently mine starts, revs fine but runs out of fuel if I rev it up for too long. It will start straight away and tick over quite quick all day long. It used to only run with only the choke on before I cleaned it. Until I learn the basic principles of these I will struggle, by all means make fun but we all learn every day. Thank you in anticipation.
  6. You have a similar problem to me. I have also changed the relevant parts and cleaned the carb. It did fire once before that with petrol down the carb, but not since. Please update this thread with your progress. Thanks. PS I am not even getting a wet plug.
  7. Well I have soaked the carb in an ultra sonic bath, changed the diaphragm, spring etc. All assembled and I am back to square one. I have a spark, but absolutely no fuel getting to the combustion chamber. Bearing in mind this did start once by pouring fuel down the carb, this only happened once and I have tried several times. I am wondering if I have no suction on the inlet side ( worn out bore ) come you experts. Regards Colin
  8. Hi Keith. I recently restored one of those which went to a good home. I have another two in the green house. I would be keen to know how you get the old disc off of the shaft. Baited breath. Regards Colin PS There are loads of those discs about on ebay on a regular basis.
  9. Thanks Nigel. I am thinking of upgrading the Hayterette. I have the aluminium disc with four small blades. Is the drive connection to this disc hard to split. Did not want to start a new thread on this as there are so many members on this section. Thanks lads.
  10. I have been told by a second hand lawn mower engineer that all the smaller B & S engines are interchangeable and have the same drive shaft fittings. Any views would be appreciated.
  11. Hi lads. I have fitted the new diaphragm as per the above, no issues fitting it. I am still not getting any fuel through to the combustion chamber at all, the plug is dry as a bone. I know the engine runs as I poured petrol down the carb. This only worked once only, but it did run fine for a minute. Obviously a blockage somewhere ? Help please.
  12. Obviously these always need a new diaphragm after a while. I split the carb from the tank. The diaphragm is crap ( part no 391681 ). There are two springs on this set up Model 92908. There are two plastic feeds that go into the depths of the tank. They have hexagon intakes which appear to be made for a spanner. I need to thoroughly clean the carb, so do these plastic pipes detach from the carb. I need to locate any jets, pilot, main etc. This Hayter runs if I pour clean fuel down the intake, then cuts out. Many thanks.
  13. I have obtained a 3.75 HP Hayterette with the four small blades. The blades are like razors but do not swivel. Will these free up with wet and dry on the bolts and bl blades with some lubrication. They are not expensive on ebay, but why throw money away when I have a tool box. Secondly the height adjustment system has some red plastic blocks fitted, looks like an upgrade. However the adjuster is very stiff, lubrication advice would help with this adjustment system, I don't want to force anything. Many Thanks Colin Sorry I cannot upload pic's.
  14. Still running well, however petrol pouring out cap hole ( about 2mm ) I found another cap with a gauze inside the hole restricting the flow. It still lets fuel out the cap. Am I simply just putting too much fuel in tank. This is my first petrol strimmer. Thanks.
  15. I pulled the carb off, put in the ultra-sonic for ten mins. New diaphragm and gaskets, job done its running again. A new carb was £50 plus vat ? So I am happy. Regards Colin
  16. I have one of those sonic tanks, how long shall I leave it on for, thank you.
  17. I have acquired this nice clean looking strimmer which has fell foul of stale fuel for a few years. I fitted a new fuel line and return line and a new diaphragm and primmer bulb. It would seem that the end plate of the carb that holds the bulb and covers the diaphragm is blocked solid. I cannot blow any air through this small plate. I have tried carb cleaner to no avail. It has hardly been used so I don't want to throw it. Suggestions would be appreciated. My carb is a Zama GND-18. Regards Colin PS I am about to restore another Hayter 21 so will be back with a few more questions in due course.
  18. Thanks Wristpin. This model I have is a 61 ( 1987 Possibly). The oil was fine and clear but I changed it anyway.
  19. I did try to attach a photo, the forum stated that the picture was too large. I down-sized and tried to save it. I am then told that there was a 'sharing violation' Appreciate the replies. Colin
  20. Today I finished restoring my Osprey 7 BHP. It looks very nice and starts first or second pull. I know I can put it on the obvious ebay, however I want it to got to good home. Can anyone please suggest a good site. I am in Essex. This has got to go as I cannot afford a meadow and have a solid Hayter 21 in my garden centre ready for a restoration. I cannot post pictures on here as I am too old and daft. I do know how to email pictures. Have a nice weekend. Colin
  21. Looking at the plans and part numbers that would be so easy to make and mild steel box section is quite cheap. A computer office seat would do the job. I appreciate the replies. Colin. Three more of these beasts have just been listed in the last 24 hours, one is a beauty at £375.
  22. Ebay listing. 222019773922. This rotten old 21 rough cut has a seat and another set of wheels linked to back of the mower. Has anyone seen this attachment before or was it home made. Listed under Hayter Petrol lawn mowers. sorry me again.
  23. There are four mowers going as a job lot on ebay. If I had room I would buy them just for the buzz. May suit an enthusiast on here. Advertised on Ebay under Hayter Petrol Mowers. Regards Colin
  24. Hi. First of all my Osprey is going well. I have read on another thread about the rear drive lubrication. I have located a gearbox type housing with an Allen Key type plug facing backwards, I assume This holds some sort of oil. Can someone help me, am I in the right place, fluid type, levels, quantity etc and or any other tips. Thank you in anticipation. Regards Colin
  25. I did notice the old bearing set up, I think the encapsulated wheel bearings would do a better job. I have just measured the wheels on the Osprey they are 170 mm ? Thanks for the reply. Colin
