Wish I did have some build pics. I usually just start building on a whim with no real plan or expectations so many projects never make it to completion. Plus I work so messy, unorganized and on many things at the same time, the camera would probably end up lost or broken if it was anywhere near the shop. This thing actually started out as something else but turned into this when I happen to put the snow blade up near the tires while looking for some fender ideas. By the time it was figured out, it was almost done.
It's a little light in the front but not much more than a tractor is. I have an old GT battery tucked in there between the front tires for weight and will be switched to a good one when I find a nice electric start K181. Filling the front tires is another thing on the long "to do" list. It'll run wheelies in 3rd if you gun it! Maybe I should put little wheels on the frame under the engine and just run wheelies down the road.
Just trying to get the ball rolling on here so here's some pics of a 2 seat custom tractor used to cruise around the engine shows. Made of spare Wheel Horse parts and uses a pull start Kohler M8 for power.
Here's what's left of the first couple I ever made just using a razor blade and glue. Believe I was about 14 or 15 years old. It turned into a whole new ball game once my girlfriend bought me a battery powered Dremel tool for Christmas. I'd really like to get back to doing these again and it's probably been over 10 or 12 years.
Thanks again for the compliments!
Here's another video. Started this engine but never finished. The plan was to add a cam shaft with push rods, lifters and have the valve rockers move too. Bit off more than I could chew and the cam shaft just kept breaking so I gave up. Cheated a little on this one since the block is made from a piece of pine instead of toothpicks.
There's a guy on Ebay that sells this build manual. I corresponded with him to resell authorized paper manuals at the local shows but so far, not one sold. I even made the pistons and drilled them plus cut the length of brass for the rod so you don't have to buy the whole lengths of brass rods. Let me know if anyone is interested in building one.
Yup, the doors open Brittany, that's why there's a little bit sanded off the front edge, so they don't hit.
As far as the engine, I started building a V8 that cranks. I have the block with pistons and a crank done but that's as far as I got. I'll try and make a video of it turning.
It's been a long time since these were made but I'd like to start making some replica tractors some day. Just thought I'd post these since Karl put in the wood working topic.
ooops, looks like I broke the clutch handle and didn't notice it until I looked at these preview pics.
I did build a boiler out of a soup can but it turned out to be a little more dangerous than expected. Even though I had a pressure relief valve in it, it still blew up. Luckily no injury occurred but the potential was definitely present. SCARED the you know what out me when it went off! It's just not worth it to me for the liability and it runs much better from air anyway .
I built this little steam engine from copper pipe, brass rod and a caster wheel. It runs from compressed air.Fun little project
The attachment pic wasn't that clear so here's a photobucket pic
