Triumph66 1,256 #76 Posted July 16, 2016 Matt, you can get a rebuilt kit from the States. Bolens1000 (Brian) supplies the necessary parts. He's on GTT. Tell him him you got a Bolens 853 and give him your B&S engine number for ID plus photos of your carb to ensure you get the right kit. madmatt01 107 #77 Posted July 17, 2016 Been looking into kits and carbs... the prices seem the same so think we're going to buy a complete new carb. Couple off other bits I need are the engine breather to carb and also a new air filter. From what I can see prices are cheap, just import taxes e.t.c worry me... do you think it would be much? Triumph66 1,256 #78 Posted July 17, 2016 Matt, from my experiences buying stuff from the USA, you are probably looking at around £40 for shipping and tax for those above items. Cheers
madmatt01 107 #79 Posted July 17, 2016 oh wow ok! I have found a UK seller for a brand new carb so going to go for that. Air filter - think I'm going to get a foam pit bike oke to replace original for now. and il look into repairing the breather pipe Cheers 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
Triumph66 1,256 #80 Posted July 21, 2016 Where did you get the carb from Matt out if interest? Also how much? Cheers
madmatt01 107 #81 Posted July 21, 2016 Of the mighty ebay.... only seller on there in the UK. Should be here tomorrow / sat
madmatt01 107 #82 Posted July 21, 2016 £25. Very reasonable able and cheaper than a rebuild kit. I don't expect the quality to be the same... but I do hope that it does the Job 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
Triumph66 1,256 #83 Posted July 21, 2016 Worth a shot. Be interested in how it fares over time.

madmatt01 107 #85 Posted July 28, 2016 So began fitting the new carb tonight... fitted up fine and exact replica off original... my problem lies with the linkages. I can't remember how they go back and I never took any photos! Can anyone help?? There's the one bar that goes from the throttle butterfly but I can't remember where this fits on the throttle assembly .... arrghhhh.... plus the rest 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
madmatt01 107 #86 Posted July 28, 2016 Does this look right?
Triumph66 1,256 #87 Posted July 28, 2016 Matt, you might want to post this on GTT. Make sure you say it's a 853 model with B&S engine on it. Good to know that the carb fits ok though.
madmatt01 107 #88 Posted August 2, 2016 Beginning to drive me up the wall slightly... just can't get it right! Hmmmmm
Triumph66 1,256 #89 Posted August 2, 2016 What's the issue with it Matt?
madmatt01 107 #90 Posted August 2, 2016 I can only seem to get the throttle to work backwards no matter how many different ways I connect it up. Really confused me and no matter how much I look at it just can't sus it
Triumph66 1,256 #91 Posted August 2, 2016 Might be worth posting up a video to see and hear the issues. Hopefully someone here might be able to point you in the right direction. Also post it on GTT as well. Good luck.
Triumph66 1,256 #92 Posted August 2, 2016 Just gone through your post on GTT and there are several 853 owners who posted on your thread. Might be worth messaging them?

Stormin 4,458 #94 Posted August 2, 2016 The Mountfield I recently sold had a B&S engine. I re-fitted the linkages on that the wrong way round. Worked ok though and the tractor went faster. 1 Triumph66 reacted to this
madmatt01 107 #95 Posted August 20, 2016 Feels good to be back... Been so busy with the kids haven't had time to think. I left the old man playing with the bolens today and he got it running! He has connected up the throttle directly some how. He hasn't connected the 'govener arm??' As couldn't work out what it did? Anyway... there's a couple more videos on my youtube that he sent me !
