Allam Generator

   I acquired an Allam generator with a Petter AA1 diesel engine some time ago. Dragged it out from it's hiding place in the workshop today, while having a sort out/move around.

 

  I don't know what year it is, but guess around the 1980's.

 

 Details of the genny are as follows.

 

 KVA 2.5.  COS 0.8. Serial No. 1022 2P. 110 - 230V. Single phase. Cycles 50. AMPS 17.4 - 8.7.

 

Made by E.P.Allam & Co. Ltd. Arterial Rd, Eastwood, Leigh-on-Sea. Essex.

 

The Petter details are... AA1 No74343 AA1.  3 BHP. 3,000 RPM.

 

 

 

 

 

 Runs and generates like a good 'un. Noisy beast though. Haven't a clue what the excitation socket is for. I'll just leave it to the imagination.

 

Any ideas of age anyone? Had a bit of a Google, but drew a blank.

From the bits ive done with generators, the excitation sockect is to re excite the capacitor. Used to do it with a 12 volt battery on

quite a few generators that I purchased dead, half the time it would get them working again and a nice tidy profit.

Substantial bit of kit. Possibly spent its working life on construction sites etc.

Very interesting that it has a built in Excitation socket to make it easy to restore the residual magnetism when lost. So much easier than having to take the end cover off the alternator to "flash" it.

Put the engine in your Raider 10 project and put the genny on the front of Blackhorse .
