neil 524 #1 Posted February 4, 2014 While i was at work the other day a few of us older guys got into a fascinating conversation about what things we remembered as a child that were in everyday use & things that we did that you dont see kids doing today The younger kids couldnt believe what we had to cope with when growing up . Here are some of the things that i remember as a child 1. Vim , Ajax , persil ,Omo , Daz 2. Jubblies ice lollies 3. Cadburys smash 4. Building Hand made go karts out of old pram wheels & bits of wood . 5. Playing Cowboys & Indians 6 Climbing trees 7. Having to polish my Nans Brass for 2 bob 8 Penny for the Guy 9. Sugar sandwiches , because we were too poor to have anything else in the cupboard . 10. Waking up in the morning & the curtains were frozen & frost was glistening on the window , this was inside the house . S1g 579 #2 Posted February 4, 2014 Being a child of the 80's I'm not sure I can name 10 but this is what I remember from being a child that isn't around anymore. 1. Nes and gameboys, (still got mine to give to my son when he's older). 2. VHS. 3. Records 4. Tv with only four channels to watch, and no remote. 5.metal toys instead of today's cheap plastic. 6.the sun in the sky! No child seats in cars. 4. Cream sticking out of the top of milk bottles when freezing. 5. Crash helmets not compulsory on motorbikes. 6. Knowing how to switch the tele off as well as on. 7. Meccano. 8. Mowing the lawns. (Push mower). 9. Sweeping the yard and drive. Cleaning the windows. Chopping kindling. Saturday morning job for 5 bob (25p) pocket money. 10. Having single glazed wooden windows or those metal Crittle windows . 3. pink parrafin heaters that used to stink the house out . 4. The great big news of the world newspapers that you had to fold into four pieces & were almost 3 ft high & 3 ft wide when you opened them . 5. Watching the FA cup final all day on the saturday on a black & white TV , with all English Players & the goal mouth having 6 inches of water or the pitch frozen solid . 6. Watching Top of the pops on Christmas day to see who was Number 1 followed by Morecomb & wise christmas show . 7. Being able to buy a Dodgy Bent MOT for my dads car because it was a heap & wouldnt pass a proper MOT ., because the chassis was sooo rotten that we had to fill the holes with cement . 8. Corona fizzy pop lorry that used to call round on a saturday & used to give us sixpence for the empty bottles that we had stolen from the sweet shop at the top of the road. 9. Party seven , Watneys red barrel, double diamond , Mackesons stout, Tankard bitter , cream soda, all from the off license at the local pub 10 . Schools still having playing fields & games lessons & not 'Politically Incorrect' to have kids using them to keep fit and indulge in the heinous crime of competition. 3. Teachers throwing 'Board' rubbers at you for not paying attention. 4. Helping Dad feed the pigs and showing our Wessex Saddlebacks,at 7-8 years of age 5. Watching my Grandad working ( Vet ) 6. Playing around the farmyard on newly built strawstacks and nearly cutting my finger off in a 'Mangle' chopping machine. 7. 'Twizzle' & 'Torchy' on the telly after school. 8. .Bathtime Sunday, then 'Sunday Night at the London Paladium' with Bruce Forsythe on the telly ( b&w ) 9. British motorbikes leading the world, Paying £10.00 for an AJS 650 CSR with 9 months mot !
