Great set of photos Nigel, I expect all those tractors etc are long gone now aren't they ??

yep they are still down there, they buried them and all the equipment that you see in the photos these photos are from the 1950s-1970ish

Hi nigel this is very. Interesting for me as I remember my dad telling me how when he worked for Sussex tractors how he used to go to the mines to work on them. I also remember as a boy mum and dad always took me to watch the buckets as we called them on the ropeway which I believe was one of the longest in the world at the time.

Should also have mentioned it was in the sixties he came there and must have fixed thoughs same fordson majors.

thanks for putting these photo's on nigel its a real insight of the workers and the conditions they had to work on plus the varied machine they worked with, i especially like the easy rider power major the chap looks so laid back and happy.

Steve don't know bout your dad but if i had to go down the mines the only thing that would of been on my mind would be returning to ground level and drawing in a breath of the fresh air again lol
