DougC reacted to the showman in Another day in the brambles
Had time to get the plough out of the van and have a better look at it.
Found a id tag under a coat of paint and managed to scrape it off to reveal the maker and serial number, next was to free off the adjuster which didn't take to much.
The wheel was free so i just lubricanted that, i also freed off the bolts to enable height adjustment.
on the hitch end I noticed that was adjustable so freed off those bolts.
The fitting plate bracket thingy is welded on at an angle so i can only assume that when ploughing with the 2 offside wheels in the furrow the plough will be upright, ( your comments please ).
heres some photos

DougC reacted to the showman in Another day in the brambles

Now ive got the Bolens running i want to put it to work so the first job is to make a rear hitch.
hunting round in the shed for suitable material i came across a camshaft locking kit for an Audi A 6 so being that I won't be doing anymore of those i cut it up.

DougC reacted to the showman in Handy angle drive
Just when we thought we'd found all the goodies this was unearthed.
Its a right angle drive but has a shaft out of each slde that drive the same rotation, handy for a 4x4 project

DougC reacted to Stormin in Display stands.
Last year I made a couple of display stands. Simple T design, similar to ones made by The Showman. These just press into the ground and information board mounted across the top.
At the HVC rally at Carlisle airport on the coming weekend, the entries are mainly on hard standing. Thinking drilling holes in the runway wouldn't go down well, I had a root around and found a pair of plastic wheels and some scrap ply board.
Screwed each wheel to a piece of board, then a splash of paint and viola the result below. The stand spikes are a good push fit in the wheel centres.
Still not very stable in breezy/windy conditions and the airfield is certainly breezy. I have in my store shed a large jar of lead shot, left over from when I reloaded shotgun cartridges. Tomorrow the wheels will be filled with shot. That should stop them blowing over.

DougC reacted to Stormin in New Pound Coins.
The new pound coins have been designed so that you can fit a spanner on them. This facilitates removing them from a Yorkshire man's hand.

DougC reacted to Stormin in Wheel Horse SD Deck
Thanks for the info, Richard. Appreciate it.
Well it's all in bits now.
Had a fight with two of the bolts holding one of the spindle housing. Heads were very corroded and sockets/spanners would not grip. After attacking one with grinder and chisel, it came out. The second one I needed to grind the head off. The bit that stayed in the housing is putting up a fight. Tried to drill it out using a pistol drill. Without success. I think a trip to the farm needed and try some heat. Other wise it's a replacement housing.
One of the plastic rear rollers is missing so a replacement for that needs to be found/made.
Also the two wheels for the rear height adjustment need replacing. One is more tyre than wheel.
The deck shell isn't so bad. Underneath looks worse than it is. Repairs are needed to the left hand side and to the top.
I'm going to see if I can get everything grit blasted before I do anything else. So that's it for now.

DougC reacted to Stormin in Wheel Horse SD Deck
Last year I obtained a side discharge deck in need of some T.L.C. Today I got it into the workshop to see what needs to be done to make it usable.
Though very rusty, it has only a couple of holes showing and the cutter spindle bearings are free and smooth. One of the rear rollers is also missing. The edges of the belt guard are suffering from tin worm in places and mouse nest and other debris cleaned out when removed.
Belt didn't want to come off, as the tensioner was seized. The tensioner pulley was also right up against the nut holding the spring end. I think the belt was a little short.
Deck is now mostly stripped down except for a couple of stubborn bolts and a pulley putting up some resistance.
