Tom got a reaction from Ian in Another wheel horse implement...
This one isn't as cool as the sickle bar I got a few weeks back but it's still wheel horse and it was a bargain so I'm happy

It needs a fair bit of love and attention but it's all there and it's solid. I will most likely spray it with oil and stick it in the shed until I have time to get it back to working order. It also needs a bag, whether you can still obtain these I don't know...

    All back together now Norm

I had an afternoon on it today, got the hitch all connected up after getting some stainless steel D shackles. I also welded the high - low lever up; it feels so good to have low range back!!
    Hitch in place:

    Lever back in place

    All back together:

Back on the bench ready for an engine service and to flush out the transmission in the next few days..

It's getting there now, I also have a plough lined up for it which should be installed in the next few weeks which I can hopefully put to work at Rural past times event. Thanks for looking.

    Evening all,

I have been clearing out and re-doing my workshop and have finally finished painting the floor and have started moving back in and couldn't resist getting the 312-8 in for some maintenance.
    On the bench:

I am installing a slot hitch so I stole the wire conduit off of my C-141 and installed it on this:

Slot hitch in place, I'm just waiting on some small D shackles:

I also removed the front wheel and spindles, de-greased them in my new parts washer, and put it all back together Bearings were all OK and the wheel spin much better now and the steering is also better. No pictures of it disassembled but here it is reassembled!!

    Parts pile growing!

I have still yet to do an engine service, replace transmission oil, weld up hi-low lever, finish off slot hitch and whatever else I can remember! Thanks for looking.

Thanks all for the positive comments, I really appreciate it. Also thanks for the links to manual and pictures, I've learnt a lot about it just in the space of 5 minutes of flicking through various manuals and pictures. It seems I am missing a pulley assembly and a lift rod, well that's what I've found so far. I may have a lead on a pulley assembly but it's early days yet, I will keep you all posted..

    Hi all,

I picked a wheel horse sickle bar up today, I'm pretty certain its wheel horse anyway. It's a cool bit of kit but I know nothing about these and I know I'm missing quite a few parts but it's a long term project I suppose. I'm not planning on restoring it as I reckon it would clean up nice. What do you think guys?

Thanks for all your positive comments, I really appreciate it! I love pottering around on it but it always feels better when you have a job to do with it.

I'll try to remind you Monday Ian, hopefully I won't forget either

Nice looking machine. Walk behinds are cool things to own but they are definitely hard work, well compared to ride ons they are I have quite a few barford atoms which are similar and are definitely cool machines to own. Personally I wouldnt respray it, I would definitely keep it original. Let us know if you get it.

I also got the deck out for a wash:

After it had been washed and oiled:

I'm still unsure whether to put the deck away in storage or sell it, I will never use it...

Looks great Ian, loads more space now for activities! Even enough room for a wheel horse or two I bet it's very handy having two lathes, especially with one being bigger than your south bend.

Looking really good Ian, you don't realise the true stance until you've seen it off of the bench and out on all fours! Keep at it guys, it's going to looking brilliant.

I put the cultivator behind the 312-8 today just to try it, it works well and will work even better when the tines and wheels are adjusted. The ground was too wet for any cultivating really, I can't wait till we get better weather.

The 312-8 still amazes me at its capabilities and I am very impressed by it. I would love to add 26x12x12 tyres in the future or even some wheel weights. Once our workshop has been finished I am going to de-grease it and wash it right down and give it a good service. I would like to renew engine oil and transmission oil, new air filter, new spark plug, new fuel filter, renew grease in spindles and front axle pivot, weld up hi-low lever, add slot hitch and cable, fabricate a battery holder, either replace or repair seat, potentially add some lights, just give it a birthday really It won't be going anywhere so I want to make it nice.
