Wheelhorse Electro with a stack pipe.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Last week I had a job come in where i needed to fabricate these for an elderly customer so they could come out of hospital after a fall. The step up to the front door was to big to manage, so an intermediate step and custom rails have helped.

But whilst making them i had a bit of time spare between metal cooling and paint drying ect, so started my Wheel horse stack pipe :D

Started with this, no idea what its from but fits the job and kindly donated by friend Simon. This is not the tidiest job, the welds are not perfect, and it's made from scrap parts as my budget for tractors is £zero, the offcuts are from my Mustang exhaust headers i made some time ago, so been planing this a while then

Objective is make a cool looking stack pipe, that makes the engine Quiet! After cutting it open, i welded a chamber inside for the gasses to enter (side entry in to the stack),

Then drilled through both outer and inner chamber cases and welded the inlet pipe on to just the outer case.

Then slid the inner perforated section out, and wrapped in exhaust wadding nice and tightly for sound deadening purposes, and slid it all back together and welded up the joints.

As i'm hoping to fit the Magnum 16 engine one day, i made a flange to bolt it to the engine rather than the threaded type fitments.

Sorry its fuzzy! But you get the idea.

Now why is there a pipe coming from the top and bottom you ask?

Well my plan was either it would make it quieter or it would not, but worth experimenting with. The main reason though is a support for the stack as it bolts to the chassis without looking like a huge bracket, then it wont crack the head if it's walloped. By the way it didnt help with noise so i plugged the end of the lower pipe ;)

And here it is finished and loosely fitted to my Electro 12 for basic testing.

What do we all think? On basic testing I'm very hopeful for a quieter tractor, the engine was louder than the exhaust note, and the engine does rattle rather a lot!

Please add on pictures of your stack pipes if you want to, be great to see them.

cheers, Daniel

Looking great mate,

Here's couple of mine, the C121 has a kubota silencer which had been "repaired" on the outlet. I'm going to make a stainless version now I've got the pure argon for the tig. The 312-8 silencer I copied from the original,ie internal volume, number of holes etc because the carb has a non adjustable main jet,& added a stack pipe no wadding inside but it is very quiet,I'm not happy with the outlet as I cut the hole the wrong shape & instead of putting a plate over I filled the gaps with weld, looks horrible! post-206-0-47493800-1412584250_thumb.jpgpost-206-0-49127700-1412584307_thumb.jpgpost-206-0-26228800-1412584389_thumb.jpgpost-206-0-91795800-1412584459_thumb.jpg

Nice stacks Koen, and a very comfy looking seat :)

Nice job you've made Ranger, my 312-8 is nice and quiet in standard form, which is why i wanted the Electro quietened down.

Thats my front weight James :P Not the first time it's been mistaken for a genny :D Again something built from scraps and offcuts.
