pmackellow 2,738 #1 Posted May 26, 2014 The latest project at Mack Towers is Steve ds rather sad looking trailer... He has had this for a while now and it needs some love to put it back on the road again, I transported it home to Crowborough a few weeks ago and we have now started on it... First job was to get rid of all the knackered woodwork in the floor, the sides are not too bad so we will be keeping them in place...
pmackellow 2,738 #2 Posted May 26, 2014 After a good clean up the next job was to replace the floor and front with fresh wood, luckily I had some of the right size in stock... The tailboard was dismantled and all the old wiring removed, a spare 3 foot lighting board will take care of lighting duties. The woodwork in this was also replaced. pmackellow 2,738 #3 Posted May 26, 2014 Having looked at the suspension units the decision was taken to change the hubs as the bearings are well past their best. The units themselves seem ok and are welded on so it seemed wasted time trying to cut them off. The back bearings on the hubs on the new units need pressing off before we can fit them, so a job for later in the week. As the weather today has been pretty awful I quickly covered the areas of the frame which were back to bare metal with a coat of black spray paint, and cleaned up and painted the road wheels. pmackellow 2,738 #14 Posted May 27, 2014 Thanks Guys More progress this afternoon/evening dodging the rain showers, I stood the trailer up on its back end, screwed the floor boards in,cleaned it all up and gave it all a good coating of black waxoyl, not pretty but functional Also put the tailboard together, scewed the light board on and gave the wood a coat of varnish and the frame a coat of black... It did stop raining (briefly) so frame and mudguards also got a coating of black, then covered over with tarpaulins (raised off the paint of course), it won't be a concours finish, but hey, its a trailer...
