Aidan reacted to slf-uk in Another Bolens joins the collection
On Friday I had a quick trip to see Alan, John and Chris (The Showman), stopping off on the way to drop off a Bolens to the other Chris (Bolens Chris as my lad calls him). It was fantastic to meet up with them all again.

I picked up a Bolens 1054 which I am sure a number of you have seen before. A couple of pictures of the tractor after it arrived safe in Norfolk, the home of Bolens tractors in the UK

It is a 1054-03 which I believe means that it was made in 1972.

Hello from the USA ! I bleed orange but don't own one AC  . My grandpa and father owned a AC ag tractor dealership and somehow I started collecting Wheel Horses . I currently have 10 in the stable along with 2 1964 Simplicity's and a Massey Ferguson 12 .

This is my son back in October 2015 on my RJ58 . The front weight is off an early Simplicity if you're wondering . It's amazing what these little tractor with a 4hp kohler can do!

Hi Aidan. You have one for grass cutting and one for towing your trailer. As for the Countax, one of the Scottish lads uses a Countax for ploughing with a home made plough. Does well.
Have a look through the site at what others have done/made. You'll get plenty of ideas here.

New floor pieced in, tacked ready to try engine on.

Someone has also cut away the side for the kohler oil drain pipe, I think I'll have to replace the cardboard with steel though.....

Taken engine off and washed down the engine bay, sand filled a 25L container!
Input flange bearing is shot and engine bay floor looks like it has been dropped to accommodate Kohler engine.

Thought I better start my own thread regarding the Skimmer.

Skimmer SN is 15200 which makes manufacture around about 1965, traced reg number through DVLA hasent revealed much.

Main aim is to get it mechanically operational, needs some new steel welding in, mainly sheet metal parts on the top frame where seat is, and engine changed to original Ransomes 600cc.

Good thing is it is all there, front auger and conveyor drive roller is free.

Its not done much since it was retired as still full of sand, needs a good power wash to flush it all out of engine bay.

First job is to free tracks up, get engine off and free up the controls and gear lever. I will get cracking next week but progress is likely to be slow as its being stored 25 miles away while I get the new workshop up.

Starting to look the part now, just got to do a little more tweaking on the lift mechanism and then paint it.
