  1. JustO&R, do you remember what brand and part number bearings you ended up using? I took some measurements and it looks like these should be fairly standard 28mm x 12mm x 8mm double shielded radial bearings. Think I’m going to look for some Koyo bearings in this size like the 6001ZZ/C3.
  2. NOS bearings arrived this afternoon. I was hoping to finish putting the saw back together this weekend but these bearings aren’t the same. It’s odd because they’re the exact same part number. The new bearings are a lot wider than the originals. Rats... Just for reference these are GMN 6001 bearings made in Germany.
  3. You mean this one, it was just delivered about 30 minutes ago Unfortunately it did not come with a tank mounting bracket or air cleaner. Otherwise it is fresh NOS. Also found the warranty card and operation pages hidden away in the box. The engine itself was wrapped in the comics section of the newspaper dated Dec 1959.
  4. While not unusual or anything I was happy to land a NOS military engine with the original box and packaging for the tank and air cleaner. This engine is pretty much pristine and never been used. Best part was I got it at good price.
  5. Not yet. It might also be the coil. It had a lot of cracks in the wires and I had to fix some bad splice jobs so it might be part of the problem too.
  6. Got the engine all rebuilt. I replaced all the seals and gaskets, including new exhaust gaskets. I also got all the wires on the coil fixed up. The spark is a little weak but at least it has spark! I was also able to locate some NOS bearings on eBay so I’ll just have to wait until they arrive to finish assembling the saw.
  7. Just an example of the make-shift gaskets I’m running into...
  8. No set screw on mine. Turns out it just had multiple cir-clip retainers. I was able to get the shaft and pulley removed along with the two bearings. Now the fun begins, trying to find new bearings...
  9. pmackello, Is that a Cub Cadet 70/100 in the background?
  10. Hmmm, I’ll have to take another look for a set screw in that area. There was an adjustment screw on the side of the engine mount tab that looked to help adjust the belt tension or something but I didn’t see anything around the bearing/shaft area. I’ll take another look later this afteenoon.
  11. I’ve been wanting to dig into this one for awhile. Finally got it 97% disassembled. The main bearing on the blade pulley is a little raw. Would be best to replace it or at least get at it to put some bearing grease in there. I’m not sure how the roller spindle comes apart. There looks to be a clip holding the back of the shaft but it also seems like it may have some sort of taper fit like a crank shaft. Has anyone had one of these off before, any photos or tips? Someone has been inside this machine a few times. There were all sorts of make-shift gaskets and seals, horrible job. Worst part about the whole thing is the spark plug threads in the head are completely stripped out. I mean, how hard is it to thread in a spark plug? If you can’t do that then you should definitely NOT be operating a gas powered circular saw! The coil is also going to need some TLC, wires are all cracked and split. There was also a pretty terrible splice job on the power button.
  12. Very nice! I like the bare aluminum too. The green handle makes a nice accent along with the wooden rollers and red engine!
  13. Me too, wishing I would have bought more of these steel base plates when I had the chance back in MN - think I’m down to one more....
  14. Got the urge to play with the drill press out in the 120F garage. Decided to build another stand. I think this one will be good for engine test runs.
  15. Excellent, I have a brand new tube of HondaBond 4 which is basically the same as the Yamabond.
  16. Got the ol’ blow torch out today and gave it a go on an old tank I had. That did the trick! It was super corroded and nasty inside this tank. Now I can get it all cleaned up and use it again. Will a gas tank sealer like POR15 work or does it need to be glued with an gas resistant epoxy?
  17. That’s such a nice generator, I hope the line isn’t clogged and you can get it all working well!
  18. Yep, it’s coming along nicely. The garage is probably 120 degrees right now so hopefully the wife doesn’t ask me to stay there... I’m in a similar boat, she knows when I’m on the computer I’m hunting for more O&Rs.
  19. Thanks Twinsport. I’ve tried that method on a couple of these tanks and never could get the bottom to release. I might not have gotten it hot enough. What do you find works well for heating?
  20. Balance is actually not too bad considering the fairly odd design. Compared to trimmers today, this would be quite clumsy, especially for extended periods of time. Having the engine and therefore all the weight down at the head does make it feel like it could get unwieldy. It’s cool having one handle be the gas tank and the other handle the air cleaner. Someone was definitely thinking outside the box...
  21. Yeah, I don’t think it’s had a great deal of run time but I need to look inside the cylinder to really tell. Definitely too bad about the tank, these are the hardest type to clean very well and there’s no accessing the fuel pickup so if the line or filter are clogged or rotten then it usually doesn’t go well. I may go through this as the next project; I haven’t decided yet.
  22. Unfortunately the old gas wasn’t drained so the tank is completely nasty with thick varnish and oil gunk.
  23. I didn’t see any indications anywhere on the unit for AEP. Dimensions of the gray line spool is 5” diameter. The black spool shroud is approximately 6 1/4” diameter. The yellow guard is about 13 3/8” corner to corner and about 7 1/8” from the center to the edge.
  24. No photos of the actual pump attachment but the instructions do reference a Life-Savr Pump Model 410P.
  25. Landed an O&R Life-Savr Generator that looks to be in pretty good shape. Has all the original paperwork. The original box is super fragile and pretty beat up but it still has the label for where it was sold.
