Excellent news Andrew, and even better news your wife approves Always good when that happens Did she have a drive? The pepper pots are loud but original & correct. The main reason i built my stack pipe was the want for very low noise levels.
  2. Thanks guys I'll have another try today. The pipework, filter and pump are the same i had running my 12hp, but been empty of fuel for a couple months. My suggestion to people experiencing engine trouble is usually first how old is the fuel However i do now wonder if i picked up the wrong can? doubt has been placed in my mind as i do have some stuff that 18 months old and some thats 3 months. But also fuel starvation? wonder if the fuel tap has broken up inside, or the pump may have been on last legs. I have had one of those spark testers fitted and the spark looks constant and good so I will change to the electric pump, different pipe with new fuel. Also try it ungoverned. I did set the valve gaps accurately but will see if a stuck valve, will it tick over smoothly with a stuck valve though? ticks over very smooth at the moment. Will change the plug as well just in case. Thank you all
  3. It's a Magnum so all electronic, not sure i can adjust timing can i? I've set the gap between module and flywheel. It does sound like ignition but not sure. Tried it with and without an air filter. Thanks
  4. Hi All, Been trying to get my Kohler Magnum 16 engine running. It starts really easy hot or cold, tick over is fine and very smooth hot or cold, but, when increasing the revs it pops and splutters and does increase but still popping a bit, when trying to drive it just goes flat and gutless, a small bit of choke does help but still wont rev nice, will drive but not well. The pump is mechanical and came off my K301 12hp. Carb is rebuilt and been tested on a rebuilt engine so came set, I have re-adjusted it slightly but doesn't make much of a difference. I've not had the engine running before so can't say i've done anything to it that would have made a difference, all i've been told is it did run years ago. Don't know if it's normal or not but when throttle is full, with engine off, it opens all the way round on the carb. When engine running and throttle on full it only goes half way and splutters. Any ideas chaps?
  5. Probably not Andrew But could have fun winding him up though
  6. Thats really nice! I like that a lot
  7. That does look a hefty, scary bit of kit Looks in very nice condition though! Help with the tractor is here when you want it mate
  8. Another nice find mate And i see by the position you have been offering it up to attach to your Morris The ultimate work tool a Morris, you can drive to a job in it, cut the grass with a rear mounted cylinder mower. and use the snow plow to get there in winter Not sure how you'll mount the sickle bar though Who needs a tractor
  9. A holesaw worked wonderful, i needed two 51mm holes in 20mm plate in the end as i decided to use a piece of thick tube as a sort of bushing to spread the load. I melted a Bosch drill in the process and the Makita drill is not sounding quite as fresh as it did, but the hole saw has all its teeth and still sharp which i was surprised so i drilled a further two 51mm holes in some 6mm thick angle for a brace the other side aswell. 54mm hole in 20mm plate. I'm adapting a forklift frame to fit my MF50b digger so i can move pallets of bricks, bulk bags of sand ect. with much welding and lots of thick bits of steel i have achieved what i set out to do. Only been putting this off for nearly 3 years. Holding the frame to the front bucket with a ratchet strap always seemed the easier option
  10. Looks like a nice shack Ian Bet you cant wait to start building tractors again. Is it far from where your new house is?

That looks a really tidy machine Bet your well chuffed
  13. Thanks guys, i'll get one the right size and give it a go
  14. What brand do you use of hole saw Mark? I really thought the teeth would fall off before getting through 20mm of steel. Its an attachment for my digger
  15. Hi All, Not really sure which section to put this under? I need to drill at least two, 34mm holes in some 20mm thick steel. How would you guys do it? My initial thought is hole saw, but 20mm thick steel, would a hole saw really last long enough! cheers, Daniel

    John Deere 400

    Very Nice I like that.
  17. Hope the weather is nice for you as it is here at the moment. Sounds fun I do fancy a go at ploughing one day.
  18. Cool cant wait to see all these photos. So what you buying next, im sure the missus wont mind I know what you mean though, ive been waiting for a spread out brick delivery for about a month or more, and then get a phone call, all 17,000 bricks will be coming at once
  19. Excellent progress! Here's the exhaust stack ive just made for my tractor: http://myoldmachine.com/topic/1258-wheelhorse-electro-with-a-stack-pipe/ I used this wadding: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251486706276?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT It really does make a difference:)
  20. So is it anyone on here thats bought it? Simon (Landsuveyor) seems to be clearing out his tractor collection to put all his attention, and funding, to the very nice classic mini 1275GT he has
  21. Awesome! simply awesome what more can i say
  22. Nice stacks Koen, and a very comfy looking seat Nice job you've made Ranger, my 312-8 is nice and quiet in standard form, which is why i wanted the Electro quietened down. Thats my front weight James Not the first time it's been mistaken for a genny Again something built from scraps and offcuts.
  23. Looks good Andrew Fits nice on the Morris Any news on the Bolens 800 yet?
  24. Hi all, Last week I had a job come in where i needed to fabricate these for an elderly customer so they could come out of hospital after a fall. The step up to the front door was to big to manage, so an intermediate step and custom rails have helped. But whilst making them i had a bit of time spare between metal cooling and paint drying ect, so started my Wheel horse stack pipe Started with this, no idea what its from but fits the job and kindly donated by friend Simon. This is not the tidiest job, the welds are not perfect, and it's made from scrap parts as my budget for tractors is £zero, the offcuts are from my Mustang exhaust headers i made some time ago, so been planing this a while then Objective is make a cool looking stack pipe, that makes the engine Quiet! After cutting it open, i welded a chamber inside for the gasses to enter (side entry in to the stack), Then drilled through both outer and inner chamber cases and welded the inlet pipe on to just the outer case. Then slid the inner perforated section out, and wrapped in exhaust wadding nice and tightly for sound deadening purposes, and slid it all back together and welded up the joints. As i'm hoping to fit the Magnum 16 engine one day, i made a flange to bolt it to the engine rather than the threaded type fitments. Sorry its fuzzy! But you get the idea. Now why is there a pipe coming from the top and bottom you ask? Well my plan was either it would make it quieter or it would not, but worth experimenting with. The main reason though is a support for the stack as it bolts to the chassis without looking like a huge bracket, then it wont crack the head if it's walloped. By the way it didnt help with noise so i plugged the end of the lower pipe And here it is finished and loosely fitted to my Electro 12 for basic testing. What do we all think? On basic testing I'm very hopeful for a quieter tractor, the engine was louder than the exhaust note, and the engine does rattle rather a lot! Please add on pictures of your stack pipes if you want to, be great to see them. cheers, Daniel
