  1. Cool :D  cant wait to see all these photos. So what you buying next, im sure the missus wont mind :yankchain:  :hide:

I know what you mean though, ive been waiting for a spread out brick delivery for about a month or more, and then get a phone call, all 17,000 bricks will be coming at once :o

  2. Nice stacks Koen, and a very comfy looking seat :)

Nice job you've made Ranger, my 312-8 is nice and quiet in standard form, which is why i wanted the Electro quietened down.

Thats my front weight James :P Not the first time it's been mistaken for a genny :D Again something built from scraps and offcuts.

  3. Hi all,

Last week I had a job come in where i needed to fabricate these for an elderly customer so they could come out of hospital after a fall. The step up to the front door was to big to manage, so an intermediate step and custom rails have helped.

But whilst making them i had a bit of time spare between metal cooling and paint drying ect, so started my Wheel horse stack pipe :D

Started with this, no idea what its from but fits the job and kindly donated by friend Simon. This is not the tidiest job, the welds are not perfect, and it's made from scrap parts as my budget for tractors is £zero, the offcuts are from my Mustang exhaust headers i made some time ago, so been planing this a while then

Objective is make a cool looking stack pipe, that makes the engine Quiet! After cutting it open, i welded a chamber inside for the gasses to enter (side entry in to the stack),

Then drilled through both outer and inner chamber cases and welded the inlet pipe on to just the outer case.

Then slid the inner perforated section out, and wrapped in exhaust wadding nice and tightly for sound deadening purposes, and slid it all back together and welded up the joints.

As i'm hoping to fit the Magnum 16 engine one day, i made a flange to bolt it to the engine rather than the threaded type fitments.

Sorry its fuzzy! But you get the idea.

Now why is there a pipe coming from the top and bottom you ask?

    15269262220_c28785649a.jpg

Well my plan was either it would make it quieter or it would not, but worth experimenting with. The main reason though is a support for the stack as it bolts to the chassis without looking like a huge bracket, then it wont crack the head if it's walloped. By the way it didnt help with noise so i plugged the end of the lower pipe ;)

And here it is finished and loosely fitted to my Electro 12 for basic testing.

What do we all think? On basic testing I'm very hopeful for a quieter tractor, the engine was louder than the exhaust note, and the engine does rattle rather a lot!

Please add on pictures of your stack pipes if you want to, be great to see them.

    cheers, Daniel

  4. Yes a lot of water! im lucky really it didn't go in the engine, which looks dry and rust free inside the inlet and exhaust chambers. I will stick it in something to soak tomorrow, but think the bowl is definitely shot. It came from a friend who's had it a while, not been on ebay.

Doug, thank you, could you have a look and see if your carb is a Walbro please, it will be written on the outside. If it is and has a good bowl i'll buy it from you just for that and hopefully build one good one out the two :)

It's a shame really as theres no play in the main throttle shaft

  5. Well some of you know i've managed to get a Magnum 16 engine for my WH Electro 12 to create an Electro 16 B) Had the engine for a while but been putting off fitting it due to needing to use the tractor.

Although, more and more problems seem to be appearing the closer i get to fitting it :banghead:

Firstly i found the crank on these newer engines are 1/8" smaller so my pulley wouldnt fit. So found an adapter to remedy this ;)

Then today i had a few hours spare and set about tidying things up, removing the threaded exhaust system (what a pain the rear end that was!) in favour of a bolt on flange type, setting valve clearances and ignition module gap ect. Made a new sump gasket and cleaned the sump out.

Decided the carb will probably need a clean, and found this  :

One of the jet screws is seized solid and the rust in the bowl is very bad. Not happy as this was meant to be a good complete engine practically ready to fit

Question is, do i put this on hold till i can justify buying a new carb at £135, or try and find a new Walbro bowl and hope i can free up the rest and get a rebuild kit? Who knows but ive given up for today. Im just glad i didnt rush in and dismantle my tractor before checking this engine was good to use first :)

  6. It say ride on mowers, not garden tractors, so as long as you dont have a cutting deck fitted then theres your loop hole ;)  Just attach the deck if you want to use it. And at the end of the day how on earth will anyone know you have one to say 'you must have insurance on that' ?

  7. My Dad's had one identical to that for about 20 years Ian, damn good welder, but yes your right about the fan.

The fix on the newer shape Sip welder at the top is definitely worth doing! Every time i tried to use it i had to mess around for ages tweaking the wire tension, made up one of your adapters and it welded beautiful! Better than it ever had before!

  8. Ive just had a look on ebay at the van. Shame they lifted it on the forklift as thats probably done quite a lot of damage! Had a split screen 4 door saloon once with the trafficators, all they did was make the following traffic crease up in fits of laughter
