More stable with the wheels further apart like this
-
I recently bought two Homelite C-51 chainsaws. The second one I bought now runs like new & is probably the loudest chainsaw you will ever come across. The first one is no longer seized & I have some more new rings after not taking enough care with the first set I bought. My big problem now is lack of spark & the coil has been tested & is definitely the reason. The Homelite part number is 55986-A. These are extremely scarse & non existent in the UK. I cannot justify the cost of purchasing one off fleabay & shipping over from the states. Has anyone any idea where there could be one over here. Ian

The A20 is perfect for the Briggs engine on the Flymo DM, but the Suffolk needs a slightly longer belt
-
I restored mine in 2018. Which drive belt did you use. I found the A20.5 is a perfect fit for the Gemini.

Don't leave it too long Paul. The seller has someone interested in buying all the saws (about 8-10) . He is a dealer who will strip them all & sell as spares. They are mostly old Homelite & Danarm saws, so as spares are virtually non existent in the UK, that is a lucrative business
-
Update for you guys interested in this saw. I won't be buying it because it is even further away from me than first thought. The seller will not ship abroad so you guys in the States will not be able to buy it directly from him. I have messaged the details to Paul, so that is where I bow out of this. Good luck !

I have made an offer for the 2 saws & he seems ok with that, but I think he wants collection in person & he is about 3 hours drive from me. I only want the other saw so the Chug a saw would be available. The pull start cover is missing but the engine is free & did run when he first bought the saw.

I was looking at another chainsaw & also came across this Chug -a Saw which I believe is Ohlson & Rice & looks in good order. If I was able to get this too (& he has already had a decent offer on it,) is it of interest. This is in the UK

Fencing companies had all their Christmas's at once

Picked up this 1960s saw last weekend. Will try to get it running when I get some time. Appears to be a very rare saw especially in the UK. Not sure if Alain has one of these in his vast collection

Happy Birthday Norm, have a good un

Finally got around to looking at this and picked up a second hand Condenser with the right fixing and dimensions. Cleaned the points & wired it back up as it was originally but still no spark. First thought was the Condenser was duff, but I did think something looked odd when I cleaned the points, so I whipped the flywheel off again. The metal strap that tensions the points was earthing out where the wiring from the coil joins it. I put a small piece of roofing felt between it and now have a lovely spark. It now starts & runs lovely, so it was the Atom module that was causing it to over advance the timing. The previous owner probably didn't spot the earthing issue, so fitted the Atom module & created an even bigger problem.

Can anyone identify this engine. It has a British MD2 Magneto

Happy Birthday Wristpin, thanks for all the advice you give throughout the year
-
Interested in this, I will check if we have any work vehicles near you this week, Cheers

i joined a US based chainsaw group & an English guy was sure it was an Atom & mentioned that they advance the timing too far and cause this problem. He doubted that there would be spares to return it to Condenser & points but a small company in Worksop claim to have them in stock. Only problem is they are not replying to me at the moment.

I bought another Danarm 55 MK2 chainsaw at the weekend & have a starting issue that I believe is electrical or timing. It has fuel & when you pull it over reasonably quickly it has a spark. It does however snatch back when you pull it over & takes forever to start. I am thinking that the timing is advanced more than it should be. My other saw has condenser & points & has a spark at low revs as they do with points. This one has points, but where the condenser is on the other saw, this one has this small yellow box. Has anyone seen this before & can throw some light on this problem please.

With all this rain I will have to get my nylon line trimmer on the weeds 😉 it's not really got the same ring to it Angus but point noted

Thanks for the tip Wristpin. Rotavators - Cultivators. Hoover's - Vacuum Cleaners. It's what happens when you have a well known brand & I don't suppose either were too upset at the extra publicity 😁
-
Well, I thought this was rare but I'm beginning to think it's the only one. I joined a history group in the town where this was manufactured, posted a photo & details of the company name & address. Been viewed by nearly 70 people & not one comment

I would take your number & email off too. You can always get contact by pm. I got an unknown call at 3.50am after posting my number in an advert. Not nice
