  1. good plan, let me know if you need this calculator... :D

Thanks Mark, I will need the calculator just need to get a few more numbers to put into it first.

Looking good Ian this is going to be great watching with envy '

No need for the envy James, you too can build something weird and wonderful :D

No update as such, I was busy dealing with the worlds most problematic trike yesterday!

But another part has arrived freshly dug out from Nigel's parts store (thanks Nigel), and thank you to Garry for picking it up for me..

The part in question is this right angled drive thingy from a rotovator  :D

I'm not sure what the gear ratio is yet as it needs a bit of freeing off, but I'm guessing at a 1 to 1 ratio or very close..

The prop shaft will come in very handy as it allows me to mount the drive thingy where I want and get the output drive lined up with the WH trans :D

    WN28_zps72fb4c23.jpg

And yes it will fit despite how it looks in the photo's :D

  2. Take project "Why Not" along next time Ian, whup their asses !! :D

I'm not sure they have a class for my level of modification Paul, but it sure would be fun to take "Why Not" around the track :D

Awesome Ian, I've done a lot of Karting, inc 24hr challenges, that takes weeks to recover from :D

24hr challenges!!  It's a wonder you can still walk Mark!

ahh shame i missed it i would have come along had i not been laid up with the lurgy

    maybe next time

You should of come along Ben, all the dust would of killed your lurgy :D

Looks like a lot of fun Ian, would love to do that myself one day

Thanks Neil, my advice would be to wear lot's of tight fitting padding.. It has to be tight to stop the body from shaking apart :D

  3. i,ll second that nigel i cant wait for a go either  :hyper:

    Me first :D

That wouldn't damage the gazebo it would wipe it out !! :D  :omg:

Don't worry Paul, I'm going to install one of those pointy "cow catchers" from the front of a steam train.. That way it should pass straight under the gazebo :D

I've not had a chance to do anything much on "Why Not", mostly due to having the remains of a Honda to strip down so I could make space to get my GT-14+2 back in the shack, but I did find the time yesterday to sit back, have a look, and work out the way forward.

As if proof was need that I'm doing the right thing with this build, while sitting down with a coffee having a look at the beast from a different angle I noticed a couple of words on one of the front tyre's..

    WN18_zps1a5cde3e.jpg

A close up for you :D

    WN20_zps5e0b3d2e.jpg

After watching the mower racing on Sunday and seeing how low all the machine were I knew I had to lower "Why Not" a bit to help it stay on all four wheels.

As I want to be able to use this machine for also pulling a trailer once in a while and go for the odd drive around the fields, I don't want to go too low, so out came the ruler..

The chassis will be chopped and dropped by 2 1/2 inches, making the chassis 4 1/2 inches off the ground, where the blue mark is on the ruler.

    WN21_zps32cfe4c0.jpg

The front will also get chopped and dropped just behind the front axle mounting.

    WN23_zps89a0cdde.jpg

The body tub will also be chopped and dropped but only by 2 inches. The extra 1/2 inch space created should just be enough to fit a standard Raider fuel tank in it's original place under the hood :)

The back of the body tub will also get a bit more trimming to get the seat as low as possible..

    WN24_zps1429b1b8.jpg

This big old lump is the Honda's final drive until..

    WN25_zps2e232f2c.jpg

Which I had been thinking of using backwards to get the drive from the bike gearbox to the WH gearbox...

    WN26_zps4622d266.jpg

But a certain good chap by the name of Nigel has found the ideal solution in his parts collection... More on that when it arrives..

  4. I went to see the blmra mower racing which was being held as luck would have it in the village I live today, and I now have respect for the mower racing guys..

    Why?

Well Karl who is Nigel's son was racing today and was kind enough to organize for me to have a blast on a racing mower round the track during a 10 min break..

How these guys manage to do so many laps at such high speed over a very bumpy track is amazing!!

After 3 1/2 laps my body had had enough of being shaken to bit's, but boy was it worth it :)

Video footage was taken, but for now have a photo of me having a fun time.... Of course I had to drive a racing Wheel Horse :D

    Image174_zps78e82d54.jpg

  5. Kent County Choppers... I like that :D   But I built a Qwakasaki powered trike years ago, so Project "Why Not" will be having four wheels :)

"Sweet! That went from zero turn to tire burn in 2 seconds!"   Thought I'd share this comment left on YouTube, it made me laugh :D

  6. Electric motor in a Wheelhorse, that's something to think about

I know where there's a mobility scooter going spare that has a couple of hefty electric motors and all the charging system which could be handy :D

  7. I saw this in the flesh today and I must say the engine looks stunning in the horse can't wait for my first drive :D

I have to say mate, the expression on your face yesterday when you saw the beast was priceless...  I think it was a mixture of "gob smacked", amazed, and Hell yeah... Your grin said it all :D

I expect I looked the same when I first saw the engine under the Raiders hood :D

Best make sure the throttle doesn't stick :D orbtheres no awning displays nearby... :P

I think some strong throttle return springs will be needed :D

  8. A small update on Garry's trike, this was done a couple of weeks ago but I didn't want to give the Project "Why Not" engine plan away by showing you a CX engine :D

A lot of weight was removed by chopping off the big bits of body work off each side..  The trike is starting to look better :)

I think next on the it list to do is sorting out the seat so it's a lot lower and is rather more.. er bolted on than it currently is!

I can't wait to get started on the wheel arches, they look so wrong at the moment and need to curve around the wheels!

Anyway, a couple more photo's for you.

  9. Freakin awesome!!!! :D

Thanks mate, it do look good.

By ecky thump, Ian, that looks the dogs watsits. Made for the job. :hyper:

Thanks Norm, yep the engine does look just right in there.

Oh yeah baby that's what I'm talking about nice one Ian that looks great in there

I knew it wouldn't be long before it was in the horse if only at the moment for fab planning purposes

Thought you would like it Ben :D  Once I had the engine out I knew there was no way I could stop for the day with seeing the engine in place :D

Wow, that engine fits just nice on that tractor Ian , really looking forward to watching this transform.

Thanks Neil, I'm really looking forward to the build too and of course the fun of driving it :D

That engine fits just great, the exhaust coming off to the back looks fab- keep us posted? Will there be videos as always soon? Top youtuber! Hours of great videos

Hi Charlie.. Will the be videos soon???   But of course :D

Hi Ian,  some pic`s of the gearbox I was given, it has slight damage to the keyway on the output shaft, I`m not sure what Kubota deck it came off but it was quite big, rough dim`s are 150 x 150 x 120mm output shaft is approx 150mm long & 25mm dia. No doubt  you can find something similar, I was told these things new are around  £1500.  Could you not use the internals from the bike hub & fabricate a case to suit ? Having seen previous examples of your work I`m sure it would not be too dificult :thumbs:attachicon.gifP1010665.JPGattachicon.gifP1010664.JPGattachicon.gifP1010663.JPGattachicon.gifP1010662.JPG

Thanks for that, it looks a heavy duty bit of kit..

Nigel dropped in today and once he had stopped grinning at the project he says he might well have a right angles gearbox thingy I can use. Ta muchly Nigel

Here you are Charlie, the first video of Project "Why Not" :D
