Had another go at the engine, dropped the sump off and unbolted the big end, managed to nock the piston down a bit, cleaned of the rust in the bore
and then managed to get the piston out, the bore has had it which is a shame as the internals look really clean.
pulled out some old stock from under the bench and found one with a spark and compression , the only thing it has is a broken head bolt and no threaded
hole in the end of the crank, so the question is do I drill and tap the crank or swop it with the duff engine ?
-
I told you a while ago that I don't always get the easy one's Chris
-
Pam said she liked the first one and how unusal it was, so its her fault I bought the second one
-
Had a bit of spare time today, so had a look at the engine, I think this has stood outside for a long time with the plug missing so the first job was to remove
the cylinder head, and no surprize it was full of water, the piston is near the top of the bore, but is seized solid, ive manage to turn the inlet valve and filled it up with red diesel
to soak for a day or two,
checked out the numbers and this one was built in 1981
-
Spent a bit of time on the Toro today, removed all the mower reels and managed to get it out of the van and into the drive,
checked out the numbers and found that its a 1980.
all the mowers seem to be in good shape and still have some paint on them so I don't think they've had a lot of use
the rear wheel is a bit of a bodge and the tyre has been knifed.
i'll do some photos tomorrow and post
-
Nice little project, good luck with it
-
As you all know I bought one of these on Wednesday without the 2 front mowers, looking on "you know where" up pops another one with all the mowers and no engine , well why have one when I can have two. It was too wide to fit in the van so had to drag it in sideways so getting it out might be fun.
but in the mean time here's some photos
-
Heres another photo of it now its out of the van
-
Well sorted mate, that's good news
-
I like the lights tucked under , looks real good

That's cool with the hood, I take it that its fibre glass
-
Super idea, I wonder how many there will be next week.
-
I bought the tractors in up-state New York, when they arrived one was a RJ35 and the Other was a RJ58 both had decks and there was a 50s
snow plow blade with them
-
Should have said Tom, I have a couple of those, you could have taken a pattern
-
I like the second idea Norm, sort of back to front Tuc-Tuc
-
No I didn't Nigel, the owner binned them a while ago, have you got any, buddy, mate
Don't know yet James, open to suggestions, good one's that is
-
Here's some photos, its still in the van at the moment as the wheels don't go round, I think its the drive chain, i'll have a play tomorrow in
the daylight
-
Grabbed a bargain off the bay on Sunday and popped up today to collect.
Never seen one of these in the flesh before and was quite surprized how small it was, when I bought it I was going to break it up to build a project
but now ive seen it i'am not so sure.
I was worried about telling Pam I had bought another tractor, but she really likes it and wants me to get it running.
Cant find a build plate anywhere but iam guessing its late 60s or 70s.
The engine is a Kohler 6.25 hp 29363D k141T so might be able to date it from that, Its been stood outside for a few years so needs a
good soaking with WD40.
Just waiting for the camera to charge up then I can load some pickys
-
Happy Birthday Andy, enjoy your day mate.
