I think you may need to drill a small drain hole as the filter looks like its facing up and might catch water off the bonnet
-
Can you grind the weld off the pedal bracket and move the pedal out an inch. ?
-
Now they are cleaned up with the grinder they will only need a skim, if i did them they would need 2 big tins.
-
Both bonnets all welded up and cleaned up, I’m so pleased with them I thought they were scrap at the beginning.
Big thanks to my son Steve for his help.
-
Nice little chap, i like Border terriers
-
Bonnet No2 gave me some grief as the blue paint wouldn’t move with paint stripper so i had to use a hot air gun and scraper and finally going over with a drill and sanding pad.
This afternoon Steve came down and got the new tin all cut and clamped ready for welding. Looking good.
-
Coming along nicely Ewan, nice work mate.
-
Chip off the old block mate,
-
Thanks Alan at least it will have the original look
-
Got some shed time working on the red bonnet, I finished sanding off the last of the red paint and my son came down with the mig welder and offered to weld it up for me.
I went off to make the tea while he welded it up.
All done and I started grinding it up but its not finished yet, I don’t want to cock it up so I’ll wait for him to come back tomorrow but I’m well pleased with the progress.
-
That’s a bugger mate, how did you manage that ?
-
Happy birthday Mike, hope you have a great day.
-
I think it’s the strengthening piece of trim they put along the edge, it’s upside down and it’s a water trap.
They all seem to rust in the same place.
-
Found some metal off an old washing machine casing luckily with the edge folded up, just needs cleaning up and cutting to size.
-
-
Got both of the fuel tank brackets finished and in primer today only thing left to do is flush the rust out of the tanks.
Had a look at the two bonnets , I’ve kept moving them down the list as i new they were bad but getting to the point where I need to do something with them, not sure what yet I don’t think I’ll sand blast them yet.
-
Got tanked up today, found some off cuts of metal in stock so I’ve made two fuel tank brackets
Think the photos show the process.
-
Is that you from Hurst Charlie ? I can’t remember where the engine came from, I’ve had it years.
-
Sorry to read this news, I Know how you feel after loosing Lily myself 14 months ago.
My thoughts are with you mate
-
Now we’ve got hail to go with the high winds
-
Found some 1/4 plate and made 2 engine plates so now both engines fitted and all pulleys and drive belts.
Next job will be to make 2 fuel tank mounting brackets so the filler neck pokes through the hole in the hood.

-
No, I kept well back. Then went to KFC to warm up.
-
