diggerjames 543 #12 Posted August 25, 2014 What are people's thoughts on building a Half track ?
meadowfield 1,900 #13 Posted August 25, 2014 Half tracks were never really successful in farming were they?
Stormin 4,458 #14 Posted August 25, 2014 YEH! Now THAT would be something different. Who's talking about farming. A half track tipper would be great.
diggerjames 543 #16 Posted August 25, 2014 I've just got the tracks home after been away and there a bit shorter than I thought so I thought what about leaving the front axle on and build a half track ? Half tracks were never really successful in farming were they? They are used a lot on ford tractors in the peat bog industry I'll try and find a picture ! meadowfield 1,900 #17 Posted August 25, 2014 It'll be easier to steer if it has front wheels
diggerjames 543 #18 Posted August 25, 2014 How about this Would I have to weight the front mark do you think ?
meadowfield 1,900 #19 Posted August 25, 2014 Now that would be cool... How short will it be on the tracks? The shorter the track and wheelbase the quicker it will turn.
Stormin 4,458 #20 Posted August 25, 2014 I think there will be some kind of braking system to the tracks to aid steering. Ie. Turn left and left track brakes. Just guessing mind. I wonder if my friend with the Ransomes will know. He used to own Gretna peat moss. 1 diggerjames reacted to this
diggerjames 543 #21 Posted August 25, 2014 May do the tracks in a triangular shape as in the pic need to sort some idlers out etc and If I still put independent brakes on as well to help it steer!
neil 524 #22 Posted August 25, 2014 Sort of like this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lv5824LeVWc 1 diggerjames reacted to this
