What are these used for

first one are tree loppers, used in kent for many years to prune the thick stuff out of fruit trees, the second pic is very like something that was used in hop gardens down ere

Hi all

The first item are loppers the second item came from the same farm

I am lead to believe this was used for getting turnips out of the ground when there was hard frost both came from a farm in the north of Scotland

you know, for lifting dashels! :) dashels a thistle, must be a regional term, my grandfather used to use one to remove the dashels and the docks from our pasture fields, cause sprays expensive and manual labour's free! :) you place the tongs in around the root and lever back on the handle, that way you get the whole plant and it dosnt grow back. ;)
