  1. looks to be working up fine. Apparently your not getting those big rains that England is having .
  2. We have some guys here that use this method. I believe that most use a laundry soap, such as Arm&Hammer with the water. I myself find the process pretty slow and prefer to blast with sand or steel shot.
  3. Sir you are by far the most complete start to finish restorer I've ever seen. Not only is there a smashing type of every model, but you deliver the whole package with interesting signage and other bits, for appeal to the masses. Your work should be on one of those BBC documentary we get once in a while over here.
  4. great to see some non typical use pictures of GT's. Seems like everyone has a working Allen, with a sickle, but seldom is see any pictures of the other attachments.
  5. I think it looks to be a sharp looking machine.
  6. He going to have to get a bigger shed and a longer hill.
  7. I'd like to see that trailer hooked up behind the 6x6 wheel horse. That would make a good photo for a calendar.
  8. I think its an interesting looking machine. Possibly that the wheel are more modern than the rest it. I would have thought they might have been a metal rim, or even something with an inflated tire.
  9. and an anvil at the other end!!
  10. Might be the same here, as I've never heard of any walking tillers made by Gravely. The only unit found here are the ones mounted to the front of the power unit. There used to be a lot of Gravelys here back in the 70's. Most of them mowed only as they didn't have any ground clearance and didn't make the best choice for cultivators work. My father had an LI, with a sulky, brush mower, rotary plow, but we only used it for lawn work.
  11. I'm not really minding the snow much, ever though we have been getting several inches at a time the last few weeks, but its the below 0 cold that starting to wear us down. So far this winter we have been under 32* for 29 days, had 11 nights of minus 0, and two days of minus 0 temps. We haven't been this cold for this long since the mid 1990's. Its still -9 at 9;30 am this morning as I write this, I have more snow to blow today, and its going to snow again tonite and Saturday.
  12. Those pictures remind me of 2008 floods we had here. Our normal 12-15' river became a 33' torrent after 30 days of steady rain. We ended up losing most of the towns business areas, roads, and over 100,000 acres of farm land. In the last few yrs we haven't really been able to buy a rain. Funny how we get these wild swings in weather, every couple of yrs.
  13. very nice lathe setup. I 'd like to get to the point of where I could have a mill and a lathe, but with all the other stuff I have in the shop, plus the fact that I have to give up 1/3 of my space to the wifes car, there just isn't any room inside my 30x40' building for extras. I have a friend whos in the business of CNC equipment, so I have them make the things I don't have room for. Not really sure I could merit having any more big machinery as I wouldn't use it as much as I do, the forge, anvils, drill press's and blasting equipment already in there. I am however long over due for a general clean out the shop job. I'm sure there are things that could go, that I've been saving for a project, or maybe just shouldn't have been saved in the first place. But its painful to discard old items sometimes, so I store way more items than I should. As a case in point, I have a complete Franklin Helicopter engine here. Now I don't own a helicopter, probably wont get one any time soon, but its too good to get rid of, and besides, how many can say they have one? Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread.
  14. a very nice and useful item.
  15. I use the sea foam in carbs that need a little help or in ones that had some stale gas from sitting around a few months. It will not replace a good cleaning on a plugged one, but might help keep one from getting worse. For long term storage or complete non use of an engine, I would say to use Sta-bil or something similar. It keeps the fuel from going south and turning into varnish. It will not however clean anything out of the system. Another way to keep a clean fuel system is to use a few oz's a gal of lacquer thinner. I use this type thinner to clean carbs with and it will absolutely remove all the junk and gum, even the paint off the outside.
  16. certainly don't look like they came much room for the spark plug. This looks to be the start of a whole fleet of these units.
  17. its amazing what a new seat will do for a tractor!!
  18. Once in a while you see a Merry tiller over here at auction, but never the truck part. Rototillers are more of an up and coming thing here in the states, not as main stream as in euro areas. Mostly we find Howards and Fraisers, then there is the cheap junk that is not likely to become very collectable. Be cool to find some of the machines here that Paul collects up over there.
  19. there are roughly 10 units that work the farm, mostly Deeres'. The biggest is a 4850 @ 152hp, two 4020's @120hp, 4320 @ 145hp, 3020 @ 70hp, 1055 @ 25hp and a 861 Ford at 32hp. There is also an M IH with a mount picker, but we never take the picker off of it. There are also several other tractors floating around, JD-G, JD-730, JD-720, JD-A, JD-B, Massey 44 special, M&M-U, Ford 901,Massey 22. Yes, there is some collecting going on down there by others in the family. Other than my two bigger units, I'm strictly on a horticultural diet here. There were around 100 units here at one time, but I paired it down to 40 or 50 a few yrs ago. At one time I farmed only market veggies, and used only the walkers on 12 acres.
  20. we sometimes they don't come back and you have to go get them. A few yrs ago the engine locked during plowing. These tractor have a had clutch and they don't free wheel due to having a trans axil instead of a transmission. This is how I have to bring one back home.
