Ok, here’s the little project I’ve been working on for the last couple weeks. I’ve been wanting to make a small lawn mower/trimmer with an O&R and I had a nice 133 military engine that needed to find a home. Thanks to Terry@Just O&R, he was able to hook me up with the perfect vintage mower - it was exactly what I was hoping for. This one is a 14” Sensation, perfect size and design style for the O&R.
It’s not 100% done yet but I couldn’t put off getting some photos posted. I’m still working on the actual trimmer concept and plan to go with more of a weed eater head set up instead of a mower blade. I plan to use the starter cup off a vintage Pioneer chainsaw and drill three holes so I can pass through some pre-cut Trimmer lines with end-stops. I’ll figure out a good way to secure the cup to the spindle shaft. I also added a stop button to the back plate similar to a few other O&R tools I have. I’m also finalizing a short throttle cable, doesn’t really need one but thought it might be nice. After a lot of hunting I ended up finding a cast aluminum boat chair pedestal that made the perfect adapter plate to mount the engine to the mower. I also had to swap out the normal Type 133 mount with one that has a couple more inches in height. This was needed to get the right clearance for the gas tank. Just a note, the early style Drillgine gas tanks don’t mount to the newer style engines and I had to make a couple slight mods to the casting on the case to get all the clearances to fit right.
It looks like this engine model is CCW, that’s different from the average O&R isn’t it?

I was going to paint the grills as the chrome on them isn't the best but leaving it in it's working clothes is the best option for this one IMO.
I had thought about that too when I was going through mine but then decided to leave the grills alone. I think in this case leaving in all the character looks great.

I’m in the middle of a couple projects and need to get them done so I can mess with the fan. I may poke around in the garage and see if I can find something suitable for a backpack harness. The throttle control is built into the fan handle so that’ll take some rigging too.

That fan bicycle concept looks interesting. Maybe I can rig up some backpack straps and give it a go sometime.
Same one. I had expressed serious interest in the one on Smokstak when I first came across it. I checked in with him again and we were able to make it happen; he’s a really great guy.
Definitely, I think most of the content in mine is mid 1960-1970s. I haven’t gone through it yet in detail but there are a few master parts list that show part number changes so those are nice.
I acquired a really cool Master Service Manual. It has quite a few service bulletins and good info on a number of engines and tools so in case there is something missing in the manuals thread maybe it’s in here...
Yeah, worked with a really nice guy on it and it all worked out. It will be fun to go through this and get it all cleaned up and operating. Nice that it appears to be 100% complete.
I wasn’t sure if I should start a new dedicated thread for this O&R Groomer Model Landscaper 600 or just add it to this thread. Let me know if you think I should start a separate thread.
Now that is a cool Trimmer, can’t wait to see that all put together!
It almost looks like some sort of harvesting tool. The bend in the tube and orientation of the handle looks like it would be carried waist high to cut the top a off of something. It’s interesting that the engine is nearly fully enclosed in the box shell.
Thank you both for the feedback. I think I’ll plan to use the original head and save the chainsaw engine for a future project. There are so many nooks and crannies - makes chipping the paint off slow and tedious. I’ve tried some paint remover on some of the parts but even that doesn’t work very well and you still have to get deep down with dental tools and stuff to get it nice. I’ll get there, just a bit slower of a project than I thought it would be. I am anxious to get some paint on it!
Finally taking another step further with this outboard. Really sucks they did such a horrible spray paint job, it’s making it way more difficult to clean up for repainting. I now have the engine partly taken apart and wanted to get some opinions. I have an old parts chainsaw that has the compression release valve in the cylinder head. Wondering if I should switch this head over to the outboard while I’ve got everything torn down.
Thanks David. I just didn’t have time to look through the 20A manual last night. I did get it with some other O&R parts. Maybe it’s for a small Tecumseh or something. I’ll be sure to purge it from my O&R spares...
