  1. Joseph, when your Dad is down in Devon, he can measure my RAM if that's any help? Thanks Andrew

    Bolens 1050

Thanks lads. A result this evening. The front wheel/ tyre I took off this morning I managed to reshape the tyre as it was flat. Using my air line I managed to coaxed it to fill out onto the rims. So far it is holding air and should be good enough to put it back on the 1050 sometime this week after work. The side walls are superficially cracked but these are the original tyres I believe being Goodyear? My plan is to use apple cider vinegar to clean out the tank and then neutralise the acids with solution of soda of carbonate as this is environmentally friendlier and cheaper than using chemicals. I will do some notes on this technique.
  3. That's an amazingly clean ST Nick; you done well to score that.

    Bolens 1050

Over the last month or so, I have spent a bit of time working on the 1050. To date, I fitted a used air filter assembly plus new filter sourced from the States, cleaned up the plug and removed one of the front tyres to get a new inner tube which I hope to get fitted this week prior to getting it back to my house so I can do a service on it and give it a thorough clean. The previous owner, a mechanic, have obviously looked after it to a point as all the nipples have been religiously greased and to date everything have been easy to undo. I am in the process of taking offt the metal fuel tank as there is a bit of crap at the bottom. I think I will replace the fuel line to the carb and perhaps install a fuel filter as well. My plan is to spend a good day tinkering with it next Saturday. I will post up some photos of the 1050 after it been washed and serviced and hopefully a video of it running.... I am also thinking of buying that red seat cover from the US that's on eBay USA.
  5. Making good progress Norm. I attach some photos of a grader attached to a Bolens 1000 that I lifted off GTT so you can see the design of the blade though the brackets to attach it to the chassis will be naturally be irrelevant. Looking at the photos it can be angled too.
  6. I think you are right; certainly the wheel weights were used by a lot of GTs in the States from several foundaries.
  7. I think it is a testament to the longevity of the tube frame design that makes them a pleasure to own. The solidity and usability of these little tractors are so appealing hence why having one is just not enough. Working on the 1050 this morning reinforces the passion for these tractors even though I have 'capped' my collection for the time being, I still hanker after another one or two, or three.....
  8. We all have one of those days Nigel. Hope you you get the Holder sorted soon.
  9. The 600 will be in the queue as I would like to get the 1050 up and running and then the H16. Plenty to keep me out of mischief! Thanks Chris for collecting it and good to see better photos on the Ipad. Doesn't look too bad; I seen worse.
  10. Chris collected the 600 earlier today (Thanks); just awaiting a full report but suffice to say 'it's a project' requiring some work. Will try to upload some photos of the 600.

    Bolens G14

Thanks Iain. There's one on eBay up North with flat back tiller & deck by sheer coincidence. Too far but maybe one day when I gave sorted out what I got in my collection.
  12. Always good to have original items on any machinery. Glad the hitch arrived safely and looks so much better too. Keep up the good work Joseph!

    Bolens G14

What's the latest on your G14 Iain? How do you rate them too? Just been reading about the model.......
  14. I think the National Trust had several Ariens ride on mowers at some of thier smaller properties back in the early 90s but probably using John Deeres or Kubota ride ons now I think. Good machines if I remember rightly.
  15. These Bolens are white in colour but often unsympathetically repainted in red and blue and sometime orange Not sure about the plough set up as I couldn't make it out in the photos but no matter I will know more when I collect it soon......
  16. Matt, that would be a good one to get. The round hood tiller has an extension on it as well adding to its desirability. I got my 1050 for £375 I think. Keep us in the loop.
  17. Hilux got fuel in, Ifor Williams trailer hitched up, jemmy bar in tool kit, all ready to go......... But don't know precise location
  18. Bags I get first dibs after Viking of course!
  19. Photos from Viking; thanks! This is a HT20 Large Frame Bolens.
  20. Yes please! Leave the screws out ......
  21. In certain parts of the agricultural USA areas you must have severe soil erosion as the hedgerows reduces solid erosion and acts as a filtered wind break. In certain parts of France, you can see miles upon miles of sweeping agricultural lands with very few hedgerows. As as a rule of thumb, the more species of shrubs and trees, within a given length of hedge, the older the hedge is. In theory, if you have 10 different species, then the hedge is approximately 1000 years old which is often evidenced by old maps dating back to the 15 century.
