Drain the transmission and give it a clean and refill with new oil. Apparently a certain amount of whining is the norm. Use API GL1 oil for the tranny due to the yellow metals in the transmission.
Matt,
Can't upload it on my iPad unfortunately. Might be better to load it up on You Tube and then post the link on here?
Maybe a mod could sort this out if possible?
Cheers
Looking like you got the original engine
I would post your tractor on GTT Bolens Forum for a postitive identification that it's an early 853. The guys on that forum got far more knowledge than I on these tractors.
Post ip a video of it running !
You're welcome. Thinking about it yours got a black steering wheel so it might be a 853 model? Also from your photos I can't see a lock diff on your rear wheel which is another possible indicator of a 853. If it is, then it was made in 1970 to '73.
Photo below.
Here's a link off GTT concerning a condensed potted history on Bolens Tube Frames.

Matt,
I think around £200, possibly £275 as there are no attachments with it and it been painted in the wrong colour (even though it been done well).
Still a good looking GT though.
With the right rear tyres it will fetch more....
Bodywork should be white with red wheels. Mid 1960s approximately.
Are you interested in the Bolens tyres? They are in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. I have bumped up the post in the For Sale section here.
Look like you got the original B&S engine in there or at least an age related one. Could be a 650 or a 750 which were made in the mid '60s. The engine should have a serial number on it which will hope date it and also give you the HP as well.
