Probably going to give it a wash and leave it as is, as far as I can see it's always been green, but not sure how original the paint is.

Well my new toy arrived this morning having travelled nearly 1000miles from France
it has the rare Sachs 600L engine with electric start.

Rebuilt the fuel pump this morning after a trip to get the missing peice.
Nearly finished rebuilding the engine ready for a test, then it will be painted.
Skimmed the brake drums today as well, still pitted but will work fine, a lot better than they were any way!
Why are the pictures loading the wrong way round?

Bit of engine rebuilding.... Crank reground, valves blasted refaced and seats re cut. New seals, big end shells ect.

My MG5 is just copper pipe ran underneath and fixed in a few places by bent over metal tags, one being one of the final drive case bolts, and engine mounts, I believe this is original, I never replace the pipe, it came with it.
Think it's 1/4" bore but may be wrong.
Will be doing my MG6 the same.

Strange, the pipe must have been routed underneath the gearbox then.

Yes after you go through the front of it as well, easier just to run straight underneath then up to the carb.

never heard of foam, if it does the same thing i can't see it being a problem.

yes, you just pack it in, its just heat resistant fabric and absorbs the noise as the gasses go through.

The original the better, I would say.
It's up to personal taste, but when I restore my machines I try to make them as original as possible.

Not sure if you seen this restoration, he done an excellent job and set the standard for me.
This dumper was based on a MG6, not 40 as i thought all were.
Although he was committed when it came to the tracks, i would have looked for a new set!

Got a quote for blasting them from a local basted and it was £350 each! So rented a blasting pot and baught 1/2 ton of crush class blasting media and done it myself, it was a truly horrible job and took a whole day to do all the bits. Never again, it's strange what we do for fun.

Seems to be a few in Australia, often used for opal mining I believe.
Their asking 13000usd, I think I'll pass.
I could do the modifications myself cheaper...

It's got a Lombardini deisel engine which is a common replacement for the crawlers.

Yes, well I must confess it's not actually mine, but I have keys and access whenever needed.
Most of the work is actually done outside or in my small shed which is full.
Been refurbing the wheels today, all the wheels are shot and need new hardened sleeves and new bronze bushes, a job for the lathe! old bushes had to be pressed out first.

Often do that when the swing on my lathe isn't big enough, also seen a cast flywheel for a steam engine machined by mounting a toolpost on the bed and having a mandrel supported at the bottom and driven from the top by the mill, had to go slow though.

Ive got a Denford 280VS and a Denford easimill with the CNC gear removed.
was fun getting down the steps to the workshop, had to be careful i didn't drop in in the pond!

Makes sense, and sounds like it's not going to alter the integrity of the dumper as the parts could be removed. I presume you want it to lift using hydraulics? And manual lifting bar might be cheaper to make.p
The ransomes hydraulic pump has the PTO sticking out of it aswell and is very bulky for what it is. I would suggest you look for a geared hydraulic pump and couple it to the output shaft. That's what I did anyway.
Somthing like this, it's geared up as the shift spins too slow for a pump to be coupled direct.

Hi Nathan,
I don't think the original ransomes hydraulic unit will fit as it is a dumper and has been heavily modified at the rear to accommodate the skip, normally the back wall would support the pump. I have fitted a geared hydraulic pump to the PTO output before though.
Will be interesting to see how you plan to use the dumper with implements, would it not be better to go for an original resoration?
