wurzel reacted to HeadExam in Cool Video
It has been 95 degrees and above for a long time here, humidity approaching 70 percent at times, the lawn is as green as a Leprechauns butt, and I'm caught up on school work, so here is a Cool Video.

wurzel reacted to Triumph66 in Bolens 1050
I collected the 1050 from the lock up this morning and bought it back to my house where I gave it a a quick wash to get rid of the grime. I drained the transmission oil and it wasn't as bad as I thought. After a an hour, I used my air line to blow out any excess oil into the container. It was replaced with new oil. I think the previous owner, a mechanic, serviced it from time to time. I emptied the fuel tank of cider vinegar and was impressed with how clean the inside of the tank was. I rinsed it out with cold water and then added carbonate of soda to neutralise the acids. I also rinsed the tank with petrol for good measure. The tank was installed with a new fuel line. I poured in fresh petrol and cleaned the spark plug and ensure everything was in place, I turned the key. Unfortunately, the battery was weak even though the engine turned over slowly. I am now charging the battery over night and hopefully I can fire up the engine to warm her up in order to drain the engine oil.

wurzel reacted to 4x4forks in Marriage of two machines!
CAN YOU TELL WHAT IT IS YET!!
Who can recognise the parts ??
After I changed the engine on my Gutbrod 1032 I had a very heavy mower deck. I also had a small Murrey ride on with no deck.
I have several areas of grass which are right upto very large hedges so it has alot of suckers growing underneath. I made this trailed mower to get under the hedge and cope with the brush without getting scratched when mowing. it can be towed directly behind a machine or to either side.
It is the hole Gutbrod deck and the rear chassis mounting the engine from the Murry. Hight adjustable via old jocky wheel and solid rear tyres. It proves to be that successful I had to put flaps at the rear as it was throwing sticks 20ft out the back.

wurzel reacted to Anglo Traction in Mower Deck refurbishment
This has been propped up against the wall in my garage since 2010 and came with the Raider/C-120. Need to get this up and running, so I dragged it out for a quick check/inspection-
Not a lot of meat left on that anti scalp Roller!. All solid Shell with no weld repairs and all free moving parts. Bearings are smooth tight and have been well greased.
Needs new Blades, Roller and a few bolts. Carrier Frame needs some work, so will take time out from the Traction Engine and take advantage of good late summer weather.
May have to replace the Deck Wheels as well, several chunks of rubber missing!. Nearly finished the Mule Drive.

wurzel reacted to HeadExam in Bolens QT17 Grading
I think the battery hold down is correct, just not the battery. The Hydro is awesome on the Bolens, but late model geared tractors aren't as common, so nice to see them as well. Thanks for the pictures.

i prefer the Hydro much nicer to use and i like the sound of the kohler twin not sure if its the correct battery hold down

wurzel reacted to HeadExam in Bolens QT17 Grading
I've had both models, and both drove the transmission off the flywheel side, while earlier tube frames and large frames powered the transmission off the PTO side. Not saying one is better, just different. I noticed you have the same issue I have, the current battery is too big for the plastic hold down.

Good video and I like the Bolens scribed plastic battery clamp; a nice touch.

Actually the QT16 was a 16hp Onan Twin cylinder and the QS16 was the 16 hp Kohler single cylinder, the Q stood for Quiet model or Quiet line and the T and S stood for twin or single. The QT series and XL series Medium Frame tractors had the engine oriented 180 degrees differently than the earlier Bolens tractors.

wurzel reacted to Wallfish in Ward's Digger 10
Here's a Ward's Digger 10 which has the same design as a General model 10 ice auger. Both seem to be pretty rare items.
Never thought O&R had enough power for an earth auger but here it is.
These doubled as a drill with an added threaded on drill chuck.

wurzel reacted to HeadExam in Bolens 176 cutting grass
I mow every 4th day, this time was the Bolens 1476's maiden voyage on the lawn, she performed flawlessly, albeit no striped look of a Simplicity/Allis, but a carpet like cut that was top notch.

Before I had my rear weights I would have my wife sit on my lap while I tilled, but she found out it wasn't just for tilling.

The guy i got the tiller from said that when he bought the tiller Bolens recomended using the weights i was a bit sceptical thinking front weights would be more useful but it does seem to work better tilling with them
